President Barack Obama claimed on Monday that without a comprehensive budget covering the Department of Homeland Security, more than 130,000 mission-critical employees will be forced to work without pay by the end of the month.
They include 40,000 employed by Customs and Border Protection, 50,000 Transportation Security Administration screeners, 13,000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and 40,000 Coast Guard personnel.
Pay would be restored at the end of any withholding period.
'I know how vital you are, and I want to make sure more Americans know how vital you are,' Obama told an auditorium full of DHS employees Monday the department's headquarters, as the White House rolled out his $4 trillion budget request for 2016.
In addition, it's likely that 4,000 people who work for the Secret Service will see paychecks on hold if Obama doesn't strike a deal with Republicans in Congress.

Don’t forget the kids, the schools, the teachers, and on, and on, and on!!!!!
Any federal employee cut should have to interview with consultants to get their own job back.
I have a border patrol son in law.. this does not make me happy (except that daughter and son in law are liberals that LOVE Obama..
I know its fun here at FR to bash federal employees on a regular basis and in many cases justifiably so.
But it is important to remember that Obama is about as popular with the employees at DHS as Ebola. He will not let them do their jobs and they know it is putting the country at great risk. Even the federal employees unions hate the guy.
He has cut their pay and is now using them and our national security as a political football to advance his agenda.
So we need to have some sympathy for DHS employees, they have to look at his picture every day they enter the building knowing he does not support their mission or their values.
I'm sure that is true ... but a jar of Miracle Whip doesn't cost $6.50 in Kansas ...
So... why DOES a jar of Miracle Whip (hwip) cost $6.50 in DC?
Real estate costs would be all that I could reasonably credit with such high prices.
Fine by me. They aren’t doing their jobs anyway. How about we also stop paying for Moo’s wagyu beef and lobster, the clown’s greens fees, “jr. staff” paychecks to the girls’ and grandma and ground AF-1.
Wondering how large the latest check he wrote with his magic pen to our enemies was. Large enough that he has to pull this stunt to cover it.
The rest areas in TX were run by the state and have been closed for years.
Its been years since Ive been anywhere that had rest areas off the road.
According to www.walmart.com , Miracle Whip $3.48 for the 30 oz jar at the 99 H Street Nw, Washington, DC location which is 1 mile from the WH.
I think the OP (dartuser) was half trying to justify the disproportionate salaries of federal government workers by pointing out the disparity in cost of living in DC vs Kansas.
However, what’s the cause of the high cost of living?
Could it be the salaries themselves that drive prices higher?
Yeah like that’s a bad thing? I guess he finally figured out his brownshirt army doesn’t like him either and wouldn’t shoot innocents as he had hoped they would. It’s a real beotch when you’re a tyrant and think its a one way street to lie to the People and then find out they’ve been lying about pledging their allegiance to you all along. You forgot they had brains, eh? I guess the brain stem pain enforcement implants will fix that, huh?
Custome and border protection........uhhhhh, TSA nitwits that frisk an Amish woman and pass through a woman in a burqua........uhhhhhh, immigration and custom enforcement personnel waving hello to tens of thousands of illegal immigrant children......uhhhhh
The Coast guard, O.K.....the rest???...inconsequential!
Whoever is in second place is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar behind
WOW, they were on sale here 2/$4.00 family dollar I think.
