I once had a 69 Dodge Dart that my parents bought and let me take to college.

Stupid car wouldn’t start when I needed it to get to my Physics final. I called a traveling repair man who got it running, but it died just as I got to campus so I coasted to a parking space and ran to the final.

The car cost $50 to tow across a street to a garage and $25 to fix.

Of course, that was in 1977 dollars, but still...

That engine was just too simple to be expensive.

My first car was my mom’s 76 Pontiac Ventura. I loved that car.

Ye olde Chrysler 225 in3 slant six. Lift the hood and there's this thing in the middle surrounded by vast amounts of clear space so you can work on it...

It was so much easier back then..;-)
