I just re-joined FR and I would like to post to my local NC state board but I am not able to. How do I get the ability to do that?

No wonder I’m clenching my teeth...the year gets uglier as it progresses...

DP and I are going out to the garden tonight. I’m trying to decide what to wear. We’re going to be outside, unless it rains.

All I know, other than the visual obtained by a drive-by, about that eyesore formerly known as Xanadu I get from that repository of the sum total of the world's knowledge both true and false (aka Wikipedia...)

American Dream Meadowlands

All that historical maneuvering, and it's still ugly and unfinished... ;-)

I just got a proposition from someone and it wasn’t to go out. Rain or not. I think, in this situation, clothing is supposed to be optional...

:Who SAID that?:

Must be from those gas price reductions.

Because we KNOW if gas prices had gone up you’d have gotten a bigger check, right?

Right?

Actually, it’s not a check to ME. It goes directly to NVEnergy, and will act as a credit on my electric bill for the next 12 months. I can either use it all at once, or until it runs out, or pay everything over $18 on my power bill each month until it runs out. The heat is already here...the A/C came on for the first time, yesterday, so I’m thinking the credit will be gone by July.

After that, I have to pay the entire bill, and that can run as high as $175+ per month. Up to now, I have been able to make the credit last the full year, but I think this year is going to be really ugly and I will have to go to the church for help with the utilities.

PS: Because the place is cooled by electricity and I cook by electricity, I opted not to split the credit between the electric and the gas. The gas is on equal payments, which are $13 a month, year round. I don’t run the furnace in the winter, but use space heaters, so the gas bill doesn’t vary by much.

But electric costs are still impacted by gas prices. The dirty secret that the greenies don’t want to know is that electric “zero emissions” cars are charged by coal, natural gas, or gasoline fired generators.

Or worse - (shudder) - nuke plants!

It has to be the ugliest building in the world.

I’m sure even Ellsworth Toohey would think so.

"... electric “zero emissions” cars are charged by coal, natural gas, or gasoline fired generators.

Wait, what?

If you want to have a "zero emission" car of any kind, you'll have to use nuke plants to wind it up. Unless you have a hydro facility in your area; then it's running on gravity like a soap-box derby car.

Nuke plants have an undeserved bad rap; they have fewer emissions of radioactive materials than do coal-burning facilities.

This is because coal has, naturally, stuff other than pure carbon in it. It even has the impressions of palm fronds from the Cretaceous pressed into it.

Which do you think will have fewer emissions, one truckload of nuclear fuel components that are guarded as if they were more precious than gold, or a hundred thousand trucks full of coal?

Anyone who thinks that electric cars might be a good thing should certainly also realize that nuclear energy is the only way to run a high-energy economy and also reduce carbon emissions.

Keep in mind that ostensibly, our Habitats move about space when necessary by harnessing the power of the atom, and that the "cars" that we use here are "electric" in their operation.

Most of our functions out here in the asteroid belt are set up to work automatically. The mirrors which reflect and enhance sunlight out here are basically a clockwork mechanism. The energy for our food comes from the even more distant sun.

Much of the force behind moving air about comes from differential heating following that daily energy infusion. In theory, if all of our high-grade technology fell into disrepair, our populations should still be able to eke out their survival with the basic setup.

How else would our descendants still be here thousands of years from now when ... oh wait, I haven't finished that story yet.

I’m still waiting for the car of the future to be like the one driven by George Jetson.

Not sure what kind of energy that car ran on.

One cannot conjecture that the technology was anything but gravitic in nature. Understanding and engineering gravity might open up all kinds of other technologies, such as fusion.

With fusion, the potential energy source is as vast as the ocean.

That sounds like not a lot of fun with your car. Hopefully it’s fixed now?

All occupants were supposed to go to the stairwell, yep. I didn’t see all the occupants, mostly it seemed to be wimmin, the men were to manly men to ever be hurt by a tornado. LOL

So, there are probably about 50 or more either in the stairwell (sitting on the steps leading into the ground floor and 2nd floor), or mingling on the ground floor in the open area.

I got squished by the drill sergeant and Diesel (Disla).
They landed in the foxhole first.

Yeah, it was fun, well, minus the N and a couple letters difference, but the basic euphemism stays the same.
