Shawna Steeves' 8-year-old daughter, Meghan, will get a dance of her own after the single mom said local PTO officials stood firm on a ruling that she could not be her daughter's date at a father-daughter dance.

Apparently (no pun inteneded) missing a father is much easier to accept than missing this dance. Smh.

No Uncle available? Why can’t people keep this nice once a year dance alone and keep it as designed. It is not the daughter single mother dance. If you want that then have that the next dance in a month or so.

I’m surprised the PTO didn’t cave.

Shawna

Nope, I guessed wrong based on the name. Although the picture isn't particularly surprising.

Farther down the article, the PTO pres lists all of the other family activities. Mom had plenty of opportunities to “feel special” without causing a ruckus.

It is called father-daughtet dance, not out-of-wedlock-badtard-child-and-slut-single-mother-who-could-not keep-her-legs-closed dance.

Before anyone calls it insensitive, it is. Still true, though.

Not “that” kind of single mom, but almost as annoying.

Liberalism and PC taking over ....

The link won’t open for me but I won’t let that stop me.

I could not agree more.

No one wants to hurt a little girl’s feelings but sorry life often is unkind and you can’t protect the little girl from the reality that she does not have a father at home.

Let’s face facts. Liberalism has brought us to this place in history where fathers are optional. Fathers are an afterthought. What was it that the Feminist used to say: A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle?

If the girl can’t get a date the girl can’t get a date. She had better get used to it.

If mom couldn’t find her a fatherly type to be her daughter’s date she should just keep her daughter home and contemplate the choices she made to bring her to this point. Perhaps she made all the right choices. If so she can explain to her daughter why her daddy isn’t there to take her to the dance.

But what I suspect is that she has been avoiding taking responsibility for her choices and is going to make the school the scape goat for her child’s hurt feelings.

You know I realize some kids may not have a parent, that may be be because of death. Is it not possible for an uncle or grandfather to take them?

I am a single mother.

No “father” in the picture.

On every Fathers Day, my daughter participated in the occasion at school and church, by making a gift for her Grandfather or Uncle.
No explanation needed, or special consideration required.

There wasn't a school sponsored Father/Daughter dance, but if there had been one, and had she wanted to attend, there were plenty of men available in my circle of friends, who would have happily stepped up to escort her in lieu of a father.
No different than any other child whose father was deceased, or otherwise unavailable to attend the function.

IMNSHO, this insane PC crap needs to end.

What happens with a Mother/Son picnic, if a mother has no sons, or a son's mother is deceased or otherwise unavailable to attend?

Does the whole event get cancelled or turned into a mockery?

Article doesn’t give much backstory, other than “her dad is not in her life.” Dead, jail, one-nighter, turkey-baster? Mom looks like a real piece of work, too.

Am I to assume you know the mother? I did not see any reference in the story to the father, so don’t know

I remember several single mothers from my younger days. Three or four, I guess. Of course back then, they weren’t called single mothers. They were just called widows and in a couple of cases, war widows.

Will you declare a fatwah on me now?
Or does your belief system require me to wear a scarlet letter?

Maybe she wants to go 'shoppping' with all those dads there...

No, it's not true.

But you're sick, and need help.

“They were just called widows and in a couple of cases, war widows.”

I am taking my chances that Shawna Steeves is not a war widow.
