We would like to take this opportunity to separate fact from fiction:
There was never a Muslim prayer or a prayer of any specific religion at the Stock Show this year.
Because the Stock Show is an annual community event that attracts many visitors from around the world, country and state each year, last spring, we established a faith-based committee consisting of a wide range of local clergy. We based our decision on and selected our participants from the Mayors Faith Cabinet Directory. We invited each participant to provide a one-minute prayer to include the safety of the contestants, animals and participants, the military men and women and world peace. Committee members include: a Cowboy Church pastor, a Catholic priest, TCU Brite Divinity School students, a member of the Clergy and Police Alliance, Christ Chapel Bible Church clergy, a Baptist minister, a Rabbi and an Imam. Last Sunday evening the Imam provided a very appropriate blessing as outlined above.
In addition to the daily pre-rodeo prayers, we hold Cowboy Church each Sunday as we have for decades. #fwssr
Well,, this should certainly make for some entertaining YouTube.
If they invited a Mohammadan, it WAS a Mohammadan “prayer.”
An imam has to utter an Islamic prayer. Other wise he is not an imam. Unless he was a Baptist imam (no such thing).
They started sliding in 1978. It used to be called the Texas Fat Stock Show. Then they got sensitive and changed the name.
Now they have moslem prayers. Watch for a gay rodeo soon.
Yep - presser reads like doublespeak.....few folks possible on that thread say they were there and heard it
The word “Allah” and “God” are not the same thing and not even close.
Quit kissing the enemy's a$$!
Muslim Cowboys?
Amen! People are so ridiculously codependent with wrongdoers.
What did the Imam think of the pig races?
An Imam prayed for the safety of our troops? On what planet?
they probably had to call the paramedics shortly after the mohammadummie caught sight of those porcine pygmies.
now THAT would be a visual
I went every year up until 2002. My kids competed in many FFA events.
Apparently the one minute video does not exist?
Don’t these events get videoed to put up on the big screens?
Also, google had no news articles on this.
A google search turned up this facebook post, this FR thread, and a barrel racing forum.
As someone brought up in the facebook comments, there was a muslim convention at at Ft. Worth civic center earlier this month that prohibited non-muslims/reporters from entering (whatever happened to denial of service and discrimination charges)?
I wonder if this Imam was at that segregated event.
I would bet that Will Rogers turned over in his grave. My question is, “why is it that because of a historical designation they can’t tear down an out of date building to build a new one. It’s old, not Roman ruins, the space could be used much more efficient; but, they let a Muslim say a prayer, to me that is a Muslim Prayer. Stop being Politically Correct and start standing up for what you believe in, that includes Brad and Board. I have attended my last performance to the rodeo.
