In Viet Nam many families name their children numbers by order of birth. Families will have two sets of numbers. The girls Nhì (2nd), Ba (3), Tư (4th), for the boys and the same for the girls. There is no First as tradition says that demons are lurking about to steal the most important infant so there is no Number One.0Vietnamese kids will have several names as they grow up and pass particular points in their lives, but only one official name.
Another tradition that provides a lot of names is the giving of ugly names to children, especially first children, for the same reason that there is no First, especially in the more remote areas. There are people whose names translate to "Crap" which evokes no raised eyebrows in Viet Nam.
