Played himself in the movie, and I thought he was great in Destry Rides Again. I think he met a sad end.

The only reason that he was believable in any of those westerns he played in was because of his war record. He wasn’t Clint Eastwood or any of a dozen or so actors that played bad-asses. He just was one.
