You picked a good time to get into reloading. Primers and powder are in short supply and have been for about a year. It’s starting to get better but the answer to your question today is look everywhere and buy it when you see it.

At least you didn’t say you were interested in taking up shooting .22LR...

Look locally first for bullets. Shipping charges are high because of the weight.

At least buy primers and powder locally, there is a $28.00 hazardous materials charge in addition to shipping.

I haven’t had problems finding brass, bullets and primers. But Powder? Holy Moley!

While there seems to be an adequate supply of rifle powder, handgun powder is as scares as hen’s teeth.
For many years I used the same powder(s), only switching brand and or product in search of a better more accurate load. Nowadays, I take what I can find and make it work.
Hopefully this will change as we move further away from hunting season(s).

I’m not into reloading, but I noticed the Bass Pro Shop in my area has a whole section of the stuff. No idea how complete it is, or how their prices run.

Consider a turret type press. You can set up the dies and the just chance the whole plate when you change cartridges. Saves a lot of setup time.

I would tell you, but then everyone would know where the best prices are and I would have to find a new source.

Honestly, many sites now have a limit to the amount of powder and primers you can order online. With the HAZMAT fee, its not worth it to order one brick of primers.

Another idea is to find a local club. They often work directly with internet sites and place large orders for club members who want to stock up. They all go in together and submit one large order that is negotiated with the seller directly. You might be able to get in on their next order.

But the best way by far is to go to a local gun show. You just need to make sure you arrive the first day early, which usually means a Friday ...

I have not had any problem finding either powder or primers at gun shows ... however bullets is another story. Usually you can buy a 100 bullet bag of whatever you're looking for at a gunshow ... but its cheaper to buy 1000 online. Berrys, Missouri Bullet, etc. are places to buy a large variety of items.

Good luck ...

Get going NOW! You are late to the game and obama will make at least one more attempt at the 2nd Amendment. Whatever he does will cause all hell to break loose, just when things are starting to get back to some semblance of normalcy, except for 22LR.

Find a local gun shop or pawn shop where gun guys hang out. Someone will be there to give you advice and show you how to get started.

But do it NOW!

Looks like a lot of Gander Mountain stores in your area—I’d use them for powder, bullets and other components. Website says they have a 10% off promotion going right now.

Selling firearms on Craig’s List is a no-no, but you can sometimes find reloading equipment that’s in good shape and at a reasonable price. It’s usually hard to wreck a single stage press so there might be some savings there.

Invest in a good “recipe” book of loading and always stay within the recommended specs. Safety, paying attention and quality control are paramount.

Research prices online to get an idea on costs so you don’t get hosed, and always buy supplies in bulk whenever possible, it drives the price down.

While the 308 primers and Alliant/Hodgdon powder were impossible to buy online, for awhile, I could drive to Fin, Feather, and Fur, and buy it off the shelf. I was shocked!

I’ve always found gun shows are best for many reloading supplies and equipment. It is hit and miss, so I buy as the shows have what I need.

I found several wholesalers operating at gun shows and had the ability to also do private sales. Ask the vendors if they do private sales, most do. Perfectly legal with all licensing in place.

www.Midway.usa for bullets.
http://www.wholesalehunter.com/ for bullets.
https://www.wideners.com/ for bullet’s.

Cabela’s has been good for reloading equipment lately.

http://www.coloradooncefiredbrass.com/ for brass.

http://store.valueweb.com/servlet/brassma1/-strse-Pistol-Brass—dsh—Once-Fired/Categories for brass.
