It means he didn’t do the math right.
The PSI is the pressure as measured by a gauge, above 1 atmosphere - instead of the absolute pressure which is what is needed for the equation.
To properly do the calculation, you need to use 27.2 instead of 12.5, as 14.7 + 12.5 = 27.2.
Thus the change in PSI would a little more than double what was calculated in that example.
Looks like the league officials used poorly calibrated gages when measuring the pressures originally.

You had refs touching the ball forty times before half time, so it must not have been that big of a deal.
#1...these refs don't make their living tossing & catching footballs day in, day out, during football season. (guess who does?)

#2...Baseball umpires may catch a scruffed up or cut-up baseball, but thats because they are constantly tossing out baseballs during the game...even when they don't carefully scrutinize them...Football refs simply rotate in the same balls...and don't have a "toss them out" mechanic ingrained in them
If baseball umps didn't toss out so many balls & used the same old 12 balls during the course of the same game, & didn't want to slow the game down by scrutinizing them...yes, you'd have more cut-up/scruffed-up/ lopsided (from that hard-hit double hit the previous inning) baseballs remaining in play.
And what? You don't know what pitchers can do with that? Or a slightly lopsided ball?
And for a pitcher who's been throwing with such baseballs 92 to 93% of ALL pitches the first half of a game then to give a press conference indicating they couldn't tell the difference when what they do is to throw baseballs for a living & toss them almost day in day out February thru October????

I agree. Brady has the ball such a short time under very frenetic conditions so he would never notice small pressure changes.

Not a Patriot fan, but what was thw difference in the second half again?
Patriots played with 11 (of 12) underinflated footballs in first half; referees caught it late in first half & corrected it for 2nd half.
So some Patriot apologists (apologists for cheating) are claiming that since the Pats scored more pts in 2nd half (when balls were properly inflated) vs. the first half (when they weren't), that no advantage was gained.
IoW, since they won by a large margin, 'twas somehow irrelevant.
I merely pointed out that...
(a) even had the Pats won anyway, tis no different than if a Dem candidate who won "anyway" still gained illegal votes from "dead voters" or "multiple voters."
(b) Upon closer look, people can claim the inflated ball issue may have been "was a wash" ... but not really that the Pats did better with inflated balls vs. uninflated.
The reason for that is that 7 pts in the 2nd half were tied to a Patriot interception whereby no Patriot passes were involved (IoW...no Brady passes were tied to that TD). Also, aside from that the Patriots scored 3-of-5 drives in the first half and 3-of-5 drives in the 2nd half.
(c) As for the apparent still "even" nature of (b), a case can still be made that that the underinflated balls helped the Patriots score at least 7 pts in the first half that they would not have gotten...and that had the Colts been down by fewer points late-late in the lst qtr -- all the way to some point in the third qtr -- they would not have abandoned their run game -- vitally important because of the rainy conditions.

I call BS on this. After it was 14-0, they ran two runs for a first down then went 3 and out on 3 passes.
They scored on their next possession to make it 14-7.

No they didn't. They ran it on FD for five yds...a Herron run ... NOT a first...the FD they got was on a pass...then went 3 & out on 3 passes...

But I recounted the 2nd qtr and somehow missed the 1 yd TD run and another run...so they only ran it 4 more times the first half (not including Luck's intentional kneel to end the first half) vs. 13 more passes...
So after they were down...23 passes vs. only five runs from late lst qtr to end of 3rd qtr...about 83 percent pass game...

This is where your ignorance of the specific game is showing...because the Colts never had the ball when it was only 14 to 7.
NE took it down near end of first half to make it 17 to 7.
The colts only had 1 kneeldown to end lst half...and then the Pats rec'd kickoff to open the 2nd half...Except for that kneeldown, the Colts didn't have the ball from 4:five four left in first half to about 10 minutes left in 3rd qtr...
The only time the Colts had the ball and had the “luxury” of losing only by 7 Was lst qtr...and not even late in lst qtr...either this was simply an honest oversight on your part or you’re apologist best to reconstruct the game itself
Given that the Colts started the game run-pass-pass not much changed.
