Alex Karras and his wife, Susan Clark, had their own production company called Georgian Bay that produced "Webster." And he had an assistant that was one of the best looking women I ever laid eyes upon who took pity on a poor, 'big toe in the sand' Texas boy (my main MO in those days even if I was in my mid to late-30s) and got some of my writing in the door in the 1980s. That aside, I wrote a couple of spec script tailored for them (one a Television Christmas Special called "Pappy's Tree" I was very proud of--) that were never produced--
Alex was a real character, funny as hell and I wish I could have known him better--

Webster: God-awful dreck. As a young GOPster, I wanted to impersonate Elvis and shoot the TV when it was on.
I’d rather watch this: http://www.watching-grass-grow.com
Webster SUCKS! Webster SUCKS! Webster SUCKS! Webster SUCKS!

I liked “Webster”, although it was clearly a bit of a rip-off of “Diff’rent Strokes”, albeit with a 2-parent household. At least I liked it at the time, whether I would now is another story (I haven’t seen an episode since the ‘80s). We got cable about the time it was in production, and I had a weird time reconciling Susan Clark as “Mom” having played “Cherry Forever” in “Porky’s” right alongside Alex Karras as the bumbling sheriff and close relative of Porky.
