I’m not all that comfortable with the police being to shoot anyone that has access to a weapon.

I agree. If the mere presence of a firearm, Nerf gun, Airsoft, glue gun, hose nozzle, or etc. is all that's needed to justify a police officer killing someone then it's a pretty logical step to making the conclusion that your life is in jeopardy every time you come into contact with a police officer.

But, of course, us peons can't justify shooting a police officer with the same excuse they use for shooting a peon:

"I was in fear for my life."

Well, I think that is a rational presumption to adopt. Then, depending on the encounter, one may conclude that the presumption does or doesn't hold.

He didn’t shoot him for the mere presence of a gun. And he was very polite when he first approached the car. All the ex con had to do is comply with the hands up and remain still commands.
And he’s been in prison, he knew exactly what he was doing. I’m glad he got shot. And it in no way translates over into normal people getting shot.
Unless with a gun sitting within grabbing distance, you plan to argue and not comply with what the officer commands at that moment.

Way to misrepresent what happened.

Guy was known to the cop, having served time for shooting at a cop at a traffic stop already.
There was at least one illegal gun known present and in reach.
He was told 9 times to not move.
He was told 5 times to show his hands.
He was told 3 times he would be shot and killed if he did not comply.
He was well warned clearly.
Nonetheless he made a furtive movement toward the officer at contact range.
Yeah he got shot. Duh.
