'Avatar' sequels pushed back a year, James Cameron says

James Cameron's 'Avatar' sequels have been delayed a year, with the first now arriving in 2017

James Cameron's return trip to Pandora is taking a bit longer than originally planned. The release for the director's three "Avatar" sequels has been pushed back a year, with the first to arrive in late 2017, Cameron told the Associated Press on Wednesday.

Cameron is in pre-production on the sci-fi films, which he intends to shoot simultaneously in New Zealand and then release over consecutive years. Although the first sequel was to hit theaters in time for Christmas 2016, Cameron said that target was probably too ambitious given the intricacy of prepping three films at once.

"There's a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don't get when you're making a standalone film," he told the AP. Twentieth Century Fox, the studio behind the "Avatar" films, did not immediately respond to a request for comment about Cameron's remarks. cComments

Although the delay might disappoint "Avatar" fans, the news isn't shocking given the scale of the project and Cameron's reputation as a perfectionist. His last two narrative films, "Avatar" and "Titanic," both saw their release dates pushed back and ended up faring pretty well. (They're the two highest-grossing movies of all time, and each was nominated for the best-picture Oscar, with "Titanic" winning).

Pushing back the first "Avatar" sequel does, however, leave Fox with a notable hole to fill during the popular end-of-the-year moviegoing season.

My father-in-law LOVES Avatar. Obsessively.I trashed the movie at the dinner table one night. I talked through the relentless military bashing in the movie and said I would never watch it again for that reason alone.
He was *pissed*. The people who like this movie have had their brains addled by it.

Definitely seemed like an Obama voter oriented movie. Promoting multiculturalism and diversity but I can understand that when you are distributing a movie worldwide you want Asians and Africans to pay to see it to. Its a silly fantasy but with an anti-military slant. The US military in particular in the Steven Lang character who looked a caricature of a US officer

Our epic blue pseudo-kitties of dumbness live an idyllic life of socialist bliss among their trees..

Just like Cameron and the rest of his socialist buddies.

Yup.
*snort*

If they’d just focus on telling stories instead of proselytizing, that would be one thing.

I believe that unobtanium was used to build the boring vessel in the movie, The Core.

If only the Native Americans had banded together when they had the upper hand, and driven European colonists out of the New World...

...then James Cameron and the stupid movie Avatar would never have been made.

Probably adapting Disney's "Pocahontas II" is harder than adapting Disney's "Pocahontas".

“He was *pissed*. The people who like this movie have had their brains addled by it.”

Some of us can separate fantasy from reality. I image that is why you resort to slamming those who dare disagree with ‘you’ in the same manner as a liberal.

Grow up, what part of freedom do you not get?

I’m sorry, some people dislike being preached at about how great looney antimilitary envirowacky propaganda is.
Which is what Avatard is.
What part of that is so hard to get?

Divest the movie of its ridiculous political and environmental message, and it’s a visually stunning film. I bought it on 3D BluRay and found myself physiologically affected by it throughout. It’s a testament to CGI, regardless of its creator.

Please, also try to tell us how fashionable and wunnerful Mooch Obama's carpet dress is!
Please, we'd love to hear it since you obviously think the leftist swill of Avatard is great.

Agreed. But given that it's set something like 150 years in the future, and given the ongoing downward spiral of our society, it seems sadly plausible that in that future time our military will be just as debased as much of the rest of our society is.

As I stated. Separating fantasy from reality. I’m not saying the film was anything other than what has been stated. But it was a whole or more entertaining than the drivel that I am bombarded with daily on most if not all news mediums (this one excluded)

Here’s the problem with Avatar:

I served in the military. (Army 11B.) It was downright offensive to military people. It portrayed the military in the absolute WORST light, fantasy or not.

So, if I created a “fantasy” movie where Jesus was actually a raging homo and his twelve apostles were his gay harem, I would expect people to get offended. Any conservative who doesn’t see the plain anti-military message and *isn’t* offended by it, has had their brain addled by the stunning SFX.

Bear in mind, this is NOT the typical anti-military bias of “wars are bad, mmm’kay?” This is a message that says “*soldiers* and the military are subhuman apes.”

Lets enumerate a few examples:

1. LIBERAL MYTH: The protagonist is wounded so he can no longer walk. In a voice-over, he explains that the surgery to fix this problem is commonplace, but the stingy military wouldn’t pay. FACT: The military leads the way when it comes to prosthetics and spinal injury treatment, since they are common amongst soldiers. If there is a chance to make a soldier “whole” again, the military will usually try and make it happen.

2. LIBERAL MYTH: Our protagonist rolls off the transport in his wheelchair. Ex-soldier mercs look on derisively and say ‘What’s with ‘meals on wheels?’” FACT: All soldiers recognize a fellow solider who was wounded in combat. They treat these men with the utmost respect. They wouldn’t insult him - they would buy him a drink!

3. LIBERAL MYTH: The ex-soldier mercs are all painted as bloodthirsty maniacs who are itching for a battle. FACT: No one wants war LESS than a solider. When battle comes, the soldiers know that they will be on the front lines, away from their families, getting their limbs blown off while protesters are back home chanting inane crap like “no blood for oil!” Despite that, soldiers do recognize the just cause and are *ready* to fight for it, but - believe me - they don’t WANT it.

4. LIBERAL MYTH: The colonel (or whatever) running the show would just like to blow up the tree so he can get back to base in time for a hot breakfast. He sits back and sips coffee while giving the order to kill innocents. FACT: Uh... do I even need to address this? Sipping coffee while ordering the death of innocents? Liberals honestly DO believe that soldiers delight in the deaths of innocents. The men who dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki KNEW that *babies* would die in their attack. Do we think they DELIGHTED in that? Seriously disgusting.

And it goes on.

This is how Hollywood wins. They inject subversive messaging into their movies and everyone starts to assume, “Well, they are depicting the *way it is*.” In fact, it’s far from the truth. But the masses accept it.

Think of the movie “Crash.” People actually walked out of there thinking it was a meaningful portrayal of race relations in America. As a result, it fuels the meme that cops shoot black people for fun.

Sigh.
