This would be in line with what Russia said this morning/yesterday about moving gas deliveries to Europe that currently transit Ukraine via Turkey. And that Europe will have to build there own pipeline to it.
Supplies to Northern Europe still seem to be flowing via the "Nord" Stream, and through Poland, so it's Central and Southern Europe that will take the hit.
Russia Cuts Off Ukraine Gas Supply To 6 European Countries

I’m thinking Winter didn’t just settle in over there. It’s been settling in for several months now.
Bet they wish they’d started fracking five years ago.
Winter has been setting in for two months.
I’m thinking Russia was getting some income from that gas. Seems like a cut off your nose to spite your face move. If this just affected the Ukraine, then I could see some rationality. Screwing Europe isn’t going to buy the guy any points.
You ever watch a guy self-destruct? Sometimes you have to just scratch your head as they do things that are going to wind up being every worse for themselves.
I wonder what Putin will do next to spur (strike that), tank his economy.
I thought global warming made this a nonissue.
Hmmm
Necessity is the mother of invention as Europe develops alternative sources and means of energy.
I doubt Europe will be in a rush to build a pipeline to a gangster madman as if that is a solution.
What a great way to raise OUR energy prices...sell it to the Euros.
Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian state energy giant Gazprom to cut supplies to and through Ukraine amid accusations, according to The Daily Mail , that its neighbor has been siphoning off and stealing Russian gas. Due to these “transit risks for European consumers in the territory of Ukraine,” Gazprom cut gas exports to Europe by 60%, plunging the continent into an energy crisis “within hours.”
Checkmate. Mid-January - PERFECT TIMING.
I figured Putin was keeping his powder dry until the time was right. So, I guess it’s now up to Europe to take their mighty military into Russia and get the gas for themselves.
Oh yea, they deleted their military’s. So no dice there. I also doubt that we’re willing to send our troops into his buzz saw.
Well, there are a lot of trees in Europe - hopefully they also have a lot of chainsaws.
Europe is JUST BURSTING with GREEN ENERGY. Let’s see how their solar panels do for the next 3 months...as winter really sets in.
Europe my FREEZE, but it will be a “sustainable” freeze.
Is the sentiment in the Alberta market along the lines of, oh, lookie, new customers? OTOH, Russia’s been froggy of late. All those imaginary little green men running around need imaginary little green vehicles to run around in....
Hmmm, do any LNG tankers sail between southern Europe and Russia?
Have the Europe customers paid for Russian gas in advance?
Well, not to worry. The Greenies have already solved the energy problems.
Are Europeans going to freeze because Russia turned off the gas or because they got suckered into getting rid of their coal-burners?
Very interesting. Thanks for posting. BTTT!
Russia to Shift Ukraine Gas Transit to Turkey as EU Cries Foul
Russia Is Losing Control Over The European Gas Market
http://www.businessinsider.com/russia-losing-european-gas-2015-1
Every interruption in gas to the EU has been over Ukraine stealing gas and claiming it wasn't doing so. In every case, investigation showed that Russia put the gas the EU countries paid for into their end of the pipeline, paid transit fees to Ukraine on that amount, and less than was shipped came out on the other side of Ukraine.
If it wasn't a serious problem Russia wouldn't have planned South Stream that the EU worked so hard to stop. Now, Turkey can be the major supplier of gas to the EU. Who they sell it to and at what price will be a non-issue for Russia.
What Turkey doesn't want for one reason or another can go to China, Japan, South Korea, etc. Russia won't be dealing with the EU countries that have made it clear they don't want to deal with Russia because it'll all be in the hands of our good NATO partners in Turkey.
