First FULLY LEGITIMATE College Football National Champion. No elected National Champion (pre-BCS), no championship game with the teams placed in that game (BCS). There was a playoff and Ohio State came out on top. Pre-BCS and during the BCS era Ohio State, the #4 ranked team, would have had no chance of being the National Champion.

Congratulations Ohio State Buckeyes!

I was happy to see OSU win, but I'm not sure how you can make the statement that this is the first FULLY LEGITIMATE national champion in college football.

Ohio State won as the #4 seed in a four-team playoff. Who's to say that the #5 team wouldn't have beaten them?

And that, folks, is the flaw in any college football playoff system. No matter how hard you try, you're never going to cover all the bases in a sport like football where it is impossible to compare teams across conferences because the season has so few games.
