McDonalds always has a promo at the beginning of the year. It’s how they try to break lots of New Years diets and resolutions among their demographic base. I noticed this many many years ago. I’ve even fallen victim to it. It’s simply a marketing strategy.

I’ve never pulled up to a drive-thru and asked for a “Ham & Egg Breakfast Sandwich”. lol (not that I’d order anything from McDonald’s for breakfast anyway)
The last time I ordered something from McDonald’s for breakfast, I ordered a “Steak and Egg Biscuit”(they read it back to me as a “breakfast sandwich” lol)
I ended up getting something that looked like what came off the grill the night before when they scraped it to clean it off, with what looked like COULD have been an egg on top. I threw it out the window. In the rear view mirror, I believe I saw a dog walk up and piss on it....
given the meat they use $2 is probably still too high.
Doesn’t matter, as a Quarter Pounder now has less meat inside than a Krystal.
$4 for a sh1tburger is way too high.
