My father and grandfather's first name was Austin. The family story was that we were descended from Stephen F. Austin. Since we are from Texas we were delighted. I searched for the connection and discovered SFA never married and had no children. He raised a nephew but the boy died young. There could have been what's called “a woods colt” or an out of wedlock birth but I couldn't find it. My brother still has the binders on dad's side of the family, when I get them I'll be able to check out what the genealogist found.

You might want to check for a different spelling. Sometimes, some words are too hard to pronounce or spell (literacy was not widespread) and it could be The Austin you are looking for is some other similar name.
