With reports that the NYPD is looking into as many as 63 threats against police officers, or the mayor this week alone, news also comes of a lack of motivation among the rank and file, undoubtedly contributing to a significant drop in arrest numbers across the city.
[Theres] just not motivation, one police officer told [Vice]. Im not writing people summonses if I have a chance of getting my head blown off. When asked if this was his own choice or a precinct-wide initiative, the officer added, Seems like the entire department is on the same page.
As the New York Daily News reported, citywide summons issued this past week numbered just 2,128, compared to 26,512 a week earlier. In that period, exactly one summons was issued in the 84th Precinct, where Liu and Ramos were stationedjust one.

Uh, OK, welcome to FR. and the cop killing fields in our neighborhoods, or whatever you are arguing for.
So a couple of black thugs getting death by cop have effectively neutered police departments all over America. Isn’t that special? Lock and load.
My thoughts exactly. How many young black kids are going to die because of this Obama-Holder-Sharpton insanity? And for what purpose?
I suppose Obama-Holder-Sharpton will just consider these young black kids who die the ones that got away from the inner city Planned Parenthood abortions. Just some late-term abortions.
Morale has got to be very low within the NYPD right now. Can’t blame the cops for looking out for themselves.
I’m only asking that the police do the jobs that they are paid to do, and respect the constitutional rights of the citizens they serve. Everybody wants this, right?
I am curious what that one summons in the 84th precinct was for.
I saw a tweet that said “iIf they feel threatened every time a black teenager points a gun at them, they shouldn’t be cops.”
The civilian population had better arm themselves. Oh wait, they are not allowed to in NYC.
Huh?
I agree with your wife.
Lock and load if you’re allowed to by your omnipotent overlords.
Just my idea on good law and order for a civil society. eliminate ninety percent of all current laws and we will be better off. Then police can spend more time being bored, safely.
Good, they should permanently stop enforcing all that nanny state garbage.
Really? You believe this? “”The only laws that should exist are those one is willing to kill over, because the hand of government is force. This way, police dont have to risk their lives over stupid laws and the people will be much happier.””
Like De Blasio would pay for that.
They have vigilantes in the worst areas of Detroit instead of any police or security force.
Certain other unions have suggested that they might not support the police unions in this. I hope they have their jobsite security set. BTT
The mayor’s responsible for the arrest for not paying city cigarette taxes. Less regulations, taxes, and government control? Sounds good to me.
This is a nice mix of unions vs. blacks vs. ultraliberal politicians. Let them fight it out.
The officer knows he has a dangerous job. But it becomes doubly dangerous if his bosses don’t have his back and he fears to defend himself.
“Theyve bullied people for years and now its coming back to haunt them. I agree.”
Unfortunately, while I don’t want anyone to get killed, your wife has it about right. But the other side of the coin is just how jaded a cop gets over the years having to deal mostly with the $hit of our society. They end up sort of psychotic because of what they do. I have an acquaintance who used to be our Chef of Police. In retirement, he’s had a major “adjustment” in how he interacts with “friends.” Basically, he’s “learned” not to trust anyone and thinks of the rest of us as “potential lawbreakers.” OTOH he gets more than $150k a year in retirement.
