Yup, the same older buddies I had that the dude with the GTO was part of were really complaining. I think it was 35 cents a gallon in early 1973! So being 15 cents more a gallon put some guys into financial limbo...

I lent it out to my step father, who was a very good mechanic, when I went in the Air Force in 1976. He decided he didn’t need “that much” engine so replaced the 389 with a six cylinder from a ‘65 C-10 pickup! I think it was the straight 6 250 or 261. Ruined the feel of the car, cause it was now basically a boat. Really pissed me off.
So I gave the car to my sister, who totaled it not long after...
That’s sad. I’ve gotten rid of a 1962 Buick Lesabre sport coupe, a 1979 Trans Am, and a 1974 Jeep CJ5. I never should have gotten rid of any of those cars. I don’t get rid of cars or guns anymore.
