I have no sound on my computer (windows 7) any longer except for the windows dings. When I go to youtube, etc - there is no sound anymore. I have tried to figure out what is going on but no luck. Would really appreciate some help. Thanks and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
Open your sound mixer and enable “video”. An upgrade I just installed turned mine to off, turning it back on enabled sound on vids again
Tested the speakers under properties and they work fine.
It’s when I try to play a video from a link whether it’s youtube or off fox news, etc that they are not working.
I always go online first but search phrases are important. I used no sound except windows 7 alerts and this was #1 reply at duckduckgo:
The more you learn the lingo, the easier it gets.
BTW: I have an Inspiron too, have had the same problem. It’s usually the audio level in the YouTube window.
www.pcmatic.com is a Virus
That is true because some sound on some videos are muted through Youtube because of copyright infringement issues.

If it is a laptop...Try this... shut it completely down, and then remove the battery...press the power button momentarily to drain any remaining juice left in the system...then when you are satisfied it is completely dead..then replace the battery and start it back up...
Installed a Radeon graphics card on a old pute, had to go into the Bios and change the settings.
No headphones accessible now- but that IS a good idea to try if all else fails. Thanks
I know how to fix it, but at present my keyboard is malfunctioning.
What browser?
I have this problem with mine occasionally and I have to restart. Shutting down doesn’t do it. I click on restart and I get my sound back. Don’t ask me why, I’m clueless.
brilliant!
then perhaps you know the difference between shit and shinola.
“In theory, everything after the mixers the same, so if youre hearing system sounds, your sound cards working.”
That’s what I thought earlier- but whenever I try a link to view a video- even on fox news- there is no sound. I went to Verizon online to listen to ring tones and still nothing. UGH!
Well, since nobody has said it yet, let me just add my two cents....
GET A MAC!!
A good rebooting almost always clears the cobwebs from a Windows OS
why address this to me?
Control Panel, Hardware and sound, Dell Audio. Check there.
Mine doesn’t say “video”. I have “devices” and “applications” and “ IE” and they are on.
Except when it’s a browser issue, which is what it sounds like (pardon the pun). He’s rebooted and has Windows tones, no browser sound.
