Mother accused of burning her 2-year-old with scalding water, industrial strength bleach

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A 25-year-old woman and her 51-year-old mother face charges of child abuse and neglect after police say the younger woman poured extremely hot water on her daughter, not yet three years old.

Doctors at Children’s Mercy have been treating the child, born January 20, 2012, for second-degree burns on 12 percent of her body, including her face and back. The girl was brought to the hospital on Saturday,December 13 at about 9:30 p.m., over 24 hours after the abuse occurred.

A child services investigator says the victim twice told her “Mommy is mean,” and stated that the bathtub water “did it.” She told the case worker that the water was in the blue bucket and that “Mommy did it.”

You know mental illness does not just happen. This woman was showing signs of flipping out long before she did this. People around her were seeing signs that she was “loosing it” but more than likely did not know what to do or how to handle it. Or maybe, just did not care, it’s hard to say really because we don’t know who was around her. I know for a fact though that before this happened people saw a change in her but did not know what they were seeing.

I’ve had second and third degree over about 20% of my upper body and head from a radiator hose bursting and spraying me. I am tearing up just thinking about a child going through that.

You do know that abuse is passed down from generation to generation. So is mental illness. In this case I can’t tell the two apart. Sounds like one messed up family as I read it. Maybe this little girl will be adopted out to people more stable.
