From a proabortion clergy member:
Clearly, giving a woman the right to abortion is a compassionate stand, and anytime compassion rules over judgment, we see the kingdom of God.
I cant get any of these Bible thumping, antiabortion people to show me any place at all scripture where Jesus ever says, You made your bed, now lie in it. Too bad
I see Jesus as being outrageously gracious, outrageously forgiving. If Jesus were right here today, I think he would say, Im sad that anyone has to have an abortion. Im sad that has to be a choice. But youve been created as human beings Youre going to make mistakes. Yes, I do value life, I do value babies, but I dont use babies for punishment.
The Rev. Christine Gimbol
Quoted in Anna Bonavoglia The Choices We Made: 25 Women and Men Speak out about Abortion (New York: Random House, 1991)87
I mean “her.”
Did this preacher ever hear of “THOU SHALT NOT KILL”?
Actually it’s “Thou Shalt Not Murder” but abortion is certainly that if nothing else.
He has a reprobate mind.
Revealing article, Thanks.
Revealing article, Thanks.
Looks like the Rev Christine is dead, I wonder how her view plays in 2014.
They are leading the flock to hell or am I the only one who sees that?
2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
There's the first and last problem right up there.
I know many will disagree with me, but according to the NT, the layout of how a church/assembly is to conduct themselves does not include women as pastors or elders.
Nothing forbids this woman from learning scriptures. However the outlay of what the apostles taught us of what an assembly/church should consist does not include women pastors or elders. Mother Angelica I will let a Roman Catholic answer on. But yes she is pro-life.
Why cant most protestant female pastors? What is their deal?
The deal is Scriptures. Women are not to be pastors or elders.
1 Corinthians 11:3 - But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the man; and the head of Christ [is] God.
1 Corinthians 14:34 - Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but [they are commanded] to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
1 Timothy Chapter 2 11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
Titus Chapter 2
1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: 2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. 3 The aged women likewise, that [they be] in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 [To be] discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. 7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine [shewing] uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you
I saw that after you pointed it out. I also looked at the OP piece. It was a quote page and not taken from an article or sermon. It was also taken after her death. So we really don't know if she repented of this or if it was out of context.
We don't, but in the case of PCUSA the sentiment wouldn't be out of line.
You can also find “Christian” parents paying for their daughters abortions, too. Even in the most conservative churches. Clearly something isn’t getting though to these people.
