Food stamps provides about a hundred bucks per person per month.
Schools provide bk and lunch 5 days a week (no deduction from EBT for that).
Our little podunk county has 27 (count ‘em) private food banks.
I struggle with the constant references in the media to people “going to bed hungry every night”.

“I was a social worker in this area for 25 yrs. Please understand that often the people that need help the most, often don’t apply for services . There are many reasons, but sometimes the system is just overwhelming to them and they fall through the cracks. Early in my career, I thought I was really helping people and then came to feel that I was setting some up for failure. I could only bend the rules so far and no one above wanted to hear what the frontline workers had to say about making real changes.”
There are constant food drives and requests to feed "starving" Americans. If any American is going hungry, it's because they're either little kids whose parents are deliberately abusing them, or they're too stupid to know where to get free food.
Yep. Fifty-Two places to get a meal in Dane County, alone. (WI)

NO ONE IS STARVING.
But, good on this cop, anyways. :)

In Alabama, it can be about $347 for two people. I just ran their calculator.
