Give me wilderness or I may as well stay home.
I’d like to see Iceland, Siberia, the Australian outback, New Zealand, those kinds of places.
We went to Iguazu Falls border of Argentina and Brazil. Great two day visit, spectacular. National park on each side of the border. Some great places in southern Chile/Argentina. After Rio and Buenas Ares and the Falls we took a great cruise Buenas Aires-Valpairiso.
CC- New Zealand is totally worth the 20+ hours and $2000 round trip from Detroit (Air New Zealand is very classy and no poisonous bugs or snakes like Australia) - the Kiwis are nice people and the countryside is different every few hours of travel - the water is pretty cold even in summer, but still nothing like Lake Superior - do both North and South Island if you can - just plan on your flight not making it on time to the West coast if you dont’ leave yourself a whole day of travel to make the connection (had to spend the night both trips and then deal with a very crowded plane the next flight out). I have a new grandson over there, so have gone twice and will be going as often as my retirement savings hold out ;)
As something of an Iceland lover, go, at least once, and get out of Reykjavik. Spend days around the island and the interior if you can. It is an otherworldly experience.
I’ve been reading about the mountainous Altai region in southern Siberia abutting China, Mongolia and Kazakstan. Looks absolutely fabulous. Search for Altai on Pinterest for many terrific photos. The Denisovan cave is in the area, where bones more ancient than Neanderthals’ have been discovered.
I’ve been to 22 countries, and don’t need to see much of anything more but the Altai beckons.
Yes, Iceland, too, on the worthwhile list. Parts of the South Island of New Zealand a very close substitute for it. I was a $50/day traveler back then — would have to be less now so isn’t going to happen again.
I’ve been to Iceland. It is otherworldly. And the women??? How they concentrated that much beauty on one small island is unfair to the rest of humanity.
Ireland dd not disappoint
