Windows 10 is still in development at Microsoft, but Redmond’s partners claim that interest in new PCs has increased lately, especially after the software giant released the very first Windows 10 Technical Preview for testers. What’s more, millions of PCs are waiting right now for Windows 10, as the new operating system is already seen as a breath of fresh air for the collapsing PC industry which has suffered from dropping figures in the last couple of years.
Windows 8 didn’t help, many said, so Windows 10 could definitely boost shipments, Intel’s executives explained during a recent press conference.
Renee James, president at Intel, said at the Credit Suisse Technology Conference on Tuesday that most manufacturers were already seeing positive signs after the unveiling of Windows 10, so most are very optimistic that shipments would be increased once the new operating system becomes available.
Google does manage the development of their “Google branded” devices, but, again, that’s not the same as manufacturing their own devices. There are plenty of “branded” devices for other companies that do the same as Google. IOW, Google is taking what’s already out there, and asking for some little tweaks to differentiate their “brand”, and then slapping the Google brand on them. If you think that’s innovation, then, I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn I can sell to you, and then you can slap your name on it and call it the “Enlightened Bridge”; it’s going to be the same bridge, but, you can “Gruber” people into believing that you designed it and built it. ;)
BTW, my wife uses the LG G2 smartphone, which is the same as the Nexus phone of last year, except that, the Nexus was built with lowered specs for Google.
Apple is worth more, but only in the market cap and earnings arenas. That’s big, but, that’s not all that matters.
Microsoft is big. It’s earnings and profits are big.
It’s portfolio of products and services is huge, and much larger than Google and Apple combined.
If there were to be a “yard sale” for products and services from Microsoft and Apple, Microsoft would have a much bigger selection of things to sell, and would come out ahead of Apple, by a lot. Remember that, all that Apple would be able to sell would be their iPhone and iPad, and perhaps the iTunes service. Microsoft would have about 20 times the number of things to sell, and would likely come out with 20 times the earnings from that “yard sale”.
In about 3-5 years time, Apple won’t be as reliant on their iPhone to produce as much as it does now, and Apple will have to find a different or new product. I can see where Apple will have its market cap drop to $200 billion or below, and might even get to HP market cap levels. A one-trick pony can’t last forever. Google is basically in the same boat.
So, you are going to argue about “transistor count” in order to give your argument some validity?
Fact is that, transistor count is irrelevant to either MS or Apple or Google. What counts is the product or products that can be made with those transistors. Intel and ARM are the designers of architectures, and of transistors. Apple can specify their needs, and so does Google and Microsoft. What one gets, the others also get. The problem then lies in execution, and when it comes to execution, Microsoft has been proven to be the best. Proof? The number of devices and OSe and applications and services in which Microsoft is the major player. Google is a major player in search; Apple is a major player in smartphones; Microsoft is a major player in just about everything. Winner? Not Apple. Not Google. It’s: you guessed it: Microsoft.
And, hey, I’m just being realistic. I don’t own MS stock; I also don’t own Google or Apple stock. But, if I was “forced” to own stock in any of them, I’d most certainly go with MS for the long-run.
Even without the XBox franchise, Microsoft would still have a much bigger portfolio of products and services than Google and Apple combined.
But, I see where you caught yourself in the “number of transistors” argument, and found the XBox One to argue against yourself. But, like I said before, the number of transistors argument is irrelevant and useless when it comes to actual execution.
BTW, this Xmas period, the XBox one is outselling the Playstation 4. Playstation was selling better the past year, but only because it was priced lower than the Xbox. A price cut for XBox One has it selling better than last year. However, I still believe that both devices are very good for what they do, even though I don’t own either (my son owns an XBox One).
So, where it Apple’s gaming system, or Google’s?
I can’t beling you really believe the Microcrap youe smoking!
Alright dude have fun living in fantasy land.
Bing = Copy of Google Search
Everyone KNOWS this except for you. Even Microsoft admits it.
” Android and iOS users keep hoping that MS will develop their applications to also work with Android and/or iOS. Thats a mark of perceived and real superiority.”
Apple already has done it.

I know some Linux users that think their product is superior to Microsoft. I don’t use Linux. So I can’t confirm or deny it.
They have a very bright future. I see Apple, Google and Amazon as the big three in 10 years.
Microsoft will still be around, but they will be slowly dying.
Twenty years from now Microsoft will be gone or will be swallowed up by another company unless they can become more innovative.
LOL! Keep dreaming about Microsoft being the winner.... LOL!
Outside of games it's not much use vs. a regular computer smart phone or tablet. I know it can do other thing, but it's primary role is for games. For the record game consoles always require lots of chip power to keep it fluid.
Transistor count is the different in every generation chip. When we get to the quantum chips, 2023, it's going to change everything 5 years from the 1st generation quantum chip.
“Microcrap”? That’s so grown up of you.
YOu do sound like all those other “ABM” looneys at CNet and Tech Republic.
But. let’s face it: when it comes to search engines, they all do pretty much the same. Fact remains that, Google wasn’t the first search engine, therefore, they must’ve copied the others that came first. That is, if I’m to use your method of thinking, which is highly illogical.
Nevertheless, Bins is now the superior search engine, and that is a major butt-hurt to you. But, eventually, you’ll learn to accept that fact.
That’s a good link you provided about Office apps becoming top 10 in the iOS ecosystem.
Which goes straight to proving my point, that the Apple people and the Android people, want what Microsoft provides, which is superior to whatever apps might be provided by Apple or Google or others.
But, thanks for proving my point.
Stick with me; you’ll learn a lot more.
Regarding Linux...
I have no doubt that it’s a good piece of software, and that’s proven by the big number of web servers that use it, and it’s usage in the super-computer field.
Android is an offshoot of Linux, but, it’s not Linux per se.
But still, Linux is still a big time loser to Windows, even with Android in the picture.
But here again, you don’t really have an argument, so, why are you still insisting on responding to my comments? If you have nothing to say, then, shut it.
So, now we’re back to where Microsoft and Apple and Google will be in the future.
But, you’re completely wrong in all of your assessments.
Amazon is not profitable, and is actually losing money, with no real indication of ever turning a profit. They’re in the wrong businesses. Online retail is not going to be a winner for them, since Walmart and Target and other major retailers are getting bigger online and eating Amazon’e breakfast and lunch and dinner. When it comes to AWS, they’re not profitable there either, and are losing money left and right. And, they won’t be able to compete against Microsoft, since MS has very deep pockets and Amazon doesn’t. Amazon will be out of business in less than 5 years.
Google is showing its age, and it’s not really growing, and it’s actually slowed down in revenue and profits. There is no real direction for Google, as long as they continued to depend on search/advertising for over 80% of their revenue. Reality is that, Google is stagnant with no other products to save them in the near or even the distant future. Google will have to diversify, and to do that, they’ll need to finally invest in “real” R&D and not worthless projects.
Apple is still a one-trick pony, and once iPHones lose their “popularity” and their loyal fan-base gets tired of the minimal incremental upgrades, Apple will go back to being what they were in the ‘90s, and they’ll won’t even be a skeleton of what they’ve been in the last 7+ years. Apple won’t ever be able to compete against Microsoft, and they’ve admitted as much by trying to partner up with IBM in order to try to get into the enterprise.
Like I’ve said, Microsoft is the only company positioned to survive any kind of crisis, whether it be economic slowdowns, or a slowdown in hardware or software.
Reality and logic says that, Microsoft is, indeed, the winner when it comes to the long term. Right now, Apple wins, but only in revenue and profits. When it comes to diversification, they’re in danger, and even IBM won’t be able to rescue them.
Google had a good 7-10 years, but, search is not going to save them, and their R&D, which is simply to throw anything and everything at the wall to see what sticks, isn’t going to bring them success. Their still operating as if they were a startup company, and that’s no way to look at the future.
Google is really, worth a lot less than their market cap says, and in reality, they’re worth a lot less than HP or Dell. They really should be worth about 1/4 of Microsoft’s worth. They could end up being the next RIM or Palm.
Yep! XBox is a gaming system. But still, where is Apple’s gaming system, or Google’s.
Fact remains that, XBox gaming is one of the many multi-billion divisions for Microsoft, while Google has just one, and Apple has, perhaps 3. Microsoft is on the way to its 17th multi-billion dollar divisions, with Surface devices.
Talking about transistors and a future as far into the distance as 2023, is an exercise in nonsense.
When it comes to technology, be it software or hardware, MS is ahead of the pack, and Apple and Google can try, but they won’t ever be able to keep up with Microsoft. Which one of the 3 companies has the most products and services? Which one is more diversified? Which one owns the most patents? Which one owns the biggest OS on the planet? Which one company, if it were to disappear from the face of the planet, would have the most impact on the world? For certain, it’s not Google and it’s for certain not Apple. People can do without the iPhone, and when ic comes to search, Google search wouldn’t be missed.
So, even you would be negatively impacted by MS ceasing to exist. That’s impact! No other company comes even close.
