Nielsen Ratings are going to finally factor in Netflix traffic. Reed Hastings thinks it's too little, too late.

I watch movies on my tv. Everything else I run straight on the ipad. The small screen doesn’t seem to bother me. Hubby and I watch movies on mirrored tv and the grandkids also love it because I stream their movies on the tv.
I know what you mean by gyrations and the wife being stumped. I just pulled the 5.1 sound out our little TV room (one of the kids’ bedrooms) because 1) my wife cannot hear any difference from the TV speakers and 2) it’s just too complicated.
Have you tried Apple TV with AirPlay? It makes getting content on the TV from a computer or tablet very easy. But you probably need a Mac or iPad.
Was Netflix but has been Amazon Prime for the last two years.
And you really don’t need to pay for either one. Everything on them is available to stream for free. I don’t pay for anything and watch whatever I want. Even the premium stuff.
I did some Nielsen rating stuff a couple/few years ago, and hardly filled it out because we only do streaming. I quit doing Nielsen because it was a pain to fill out the little book. If they did an automatic box that caught what we watched I would have done it. Only Netflix tv and Pandora music here. We opted out of cable after the 2000 election.
Some show on nbc recently got a 0.6 rating.
They still are undecided on whether to cancel it yet....
I did a google search on this and found that the networks have several shows with below 1.0 ratings. Imagine that in past years how quick the shows would be canceled. They are desperate.
Here are some ratings from August 2014

It is not always a bad idea to give a show a chance, especially if it new or different than what came before it
I watch very little tv, but through Netflix and Amazon Prime I have checked out shows like the Blacklist, falling skies, and arrow, and I enjoy all three. Arrow led me to The Flash, which I enjoy also.
The seams in blacklist were obvious in season one, but season two exposed it as a very pedestrian show, save for Spader.
it just occurred to me - seeing a list of cancelled shows - that I have never even heard of most of them
I don’t watch much TV but a really good show will be talked about in real life, on Facebook and stuff... so even people like me would hear about some of them.
The Queen Latifah Show, The Millers, Sullivan & Son, Hot in Cleveland, Perception, Red Band Society, Franklin & Bash, Selfie (with Amy Pond from Dr Who and a Korean guy),

Just never really heard of any of them.
I did see some of an episode of Falling Skies and it wasn’t too bad....
Queen LaBarfa, LOL
(hot in Cleveland has Betty White)
It’s ok. It’s a bit more intelligent than I expected, so that pleased me. And some unexpected stuff makes it fun. Not an all time classic, but worth watching.
Agreed. Between OTA and what you can get with Roku et al that should happen. We’d be there now except for the monopoly Regional Sports Networks carried only by those two have on local professional sports.
Same here (regarding internet speed).
Our is so slow that a three minute Youtube video is often a problem. Streaming movies and TV just isn’t an option in this area.
Hopefully some business will find an economical way to get faster internet out to where you are
Thanks, Geron. I keep hope alive, LOL.
:p
I get 65 HD channels OTA.
Simple Android box running XBMC gives me everything else.
The Nielsen reading is all automatic now.
So if you have a desktop box, computer, tablet, phone... It can tell who you are and what you are looking at.
That’s right big brother is watching.
That’s the beautiful freedom of being a FReeper.
You know you’re near the top of the regime’s list.
Never a worry about “if” they’re watching.
I actually find it quite liberating.
