I disagree. That’s a 12-year-old playing with a fake gun. It’s obvious in the video. Not sure why a police officer didn’t see that.

I was not there so I am in no place to make a fully informed comment, but tactically it might have been smarter to put some distance between the shooter and try to talk him into dropping the gun.

What you don't see in the video is the kid putting the gun in his pants when the police show up. The police don't see him with a gun and haven't seen any video. When they drive up to him, he lifts his coat and reaches for the BB gun.

The police got too close too soon and the kid made a bad move, which is unfortunately what kids do.
