Garth Brooks cancels Thanksgiving appearance on Tonight Show after Ferguson decision
The singer wrote on his Facebook page that he landed in New York on the night the grand jurys decision was announced 'to the news of the civil unrest that was going on in our nation.'
Singer Garth Brooks has canceled a Thanksgiving appearance on NBCs Tonight show because he said it seemed distasteful given the reaction to the decision not to prosecute Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson for the shooting of Michael Brown this summer.
NBC on Wednesday confirmed the postponement, saying Brooks was being replaced on the show by Whoopi Goldberg and Tom Colicchio.
Brooks wrote on his Facebook page that he landed in New York on the night the grand jurys decision was announced to the news of the civil unrest that was going on in our nation. To spend the day promoting our stuff like nothing was wrong seemed distasteful to me.

His best idea since Chris Gaines...
Not a terribly smart move if you ask me.
It might mean something if he were still considered a big superstar but those days are 20 years in the past.
Yup
I canceled my scheduled root canal in protest and solidarity.
Seems to me he doesn’t want to do the gig and is using this as an excuse...a pretty silly one too, I might add.
"I love him (Obama) to death and I fully support him and I just wish him well because it's got to be hell in that office" - Garth Brooks
There was a time when I liked his music. Why can’t entertainers just entertain and stay out of things they know nothing about?
There was time when Country Music performers were still Country in their style and almost always reliably pro-American. Granted Billy Grammer and Minnie Pearl did campaign for DemonRAT George Wallace, a pro-union socialist, but they later wised up and supported Reagan. Now, the C&W “singers” are as vile as rap “artists”, embracing commie values.
I know you are not kidding. I am glad he left Oklahoma for Nashville.
I’ll need to inform my wife that all of her old garth brooks CD’s just became targets.
What an A$$hat!! His songs sound like bad Eagles songs.
Is he postponing due to the civil unrest, or due to the Grand Jury verdict? You could read that either way.
Not that it matters. Life goes on. Unless he’s moving to hip-hop, I doubt his fans are in the lawless mobs. And if the “civil” unrest moves to his fan base, we have the means to take care of it.
What's she gonna sing?
How did this idiot get a career anyway? He didn’t even write that hit he had “Friends in low places” which to me is the only good song he ever did, the rest is commercial crap.
Joe Bob Briggs made fun of it in the EARLY 1990s when talk shows hosts had other talk show hosts on as guests.
They’re still doing that?
I won’t comment, ‘cause I never liked the guy anyway.
He never heard of the Ditzie Chicks?
