Given what we have heard from Scotti so far, he did nothing illegal. Also, it appears that Bill Cosby was careful about making sure Scotti had no opportunity to see anything which was illegal enough to standup in a court of law. Bill Cosby could have sued Scotti for defamation in the absence of the rape victims’ supporting testimonies they were raped. We have already seen many of these women, including some who received Scotti’s money orders from Cosby, refusing to discuss the rape cases. They are very likely silenced by NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreements) in exchange for hush money settlements. Under these circumstances, it was more likely Scotti could have gone to prison or been sued into homelessness in a civil court lawsuit had he come forward without the support of the rape victims.
Yes, and we also heard from Lois Lerner that she did nothing wrong either - as a self-serving preface to her claiming the 5th.
Call it on-screen persona, his contributions to comedy in the early years or whatever. Because of this, many people are inclined to stick up for him and think back on the women that attacked Hermain Cain, or the Anita Hill performance re: Clarence Thomas as a corollary. More odd is the total quash on all of Bill Clinton's alleged rapes and assaults not even deigning to label them mere peccadillos as with Monica Lewinsky.
Personally, I don't feel such a connection. To my mind, when one thinks of public personality portrayal and their roles being contradictory with real life, I look at Pee Wee Herman and his downfall.
I don't have a dog in this hunt, really. Cosby will get what he deserves, either legally or professionally. Or, alternatively, it will cost him MORE hush money than before and he'll have to find somebody other than Scotti to deliver it.
