There are so many particles now they’re naming them Eh, and Meh.
To: WhiskeyX
Scientists at the world's largest smasher said Wednesday they have discovered two new subatomic particles never seen before that could widen our understanding of the universe.
Of course they did.
Did anyone expect them to say they couldn't make the collider work so they shouldn't be receiving any more funding?
To: WhiskeyX
I predict that they will find other stuff. Where’s my Nobel Prize? The money?

bound together by a strong force. What is the "strong force?" Gravity? Electromagnetic? Something new?
Methinks, if we don't annihilate each other, humans will go to the stars one day.

What is the “strong force?”
See:
The Strong Nuclear Force (also referred to as the strong force) is one of the four basic forces in nature (the others being gravity, the electromagnetic force, and the weak nuclear force). As its name implies, it is the strongest of the four. However, it also has the shortest range, meaning that particles must be extremely close before its effects are felt. Its main job is to hold together the subatomic particles of the nucleus (protons, which carry a positive charge, and neutrons, which carry no charge. These particles are collectively called nucleons).

“...and are both quarkons made from three blarks bound together by a strong force.”
There, that makes more sense to a non-particle physicist. :)

Each “new” particle is going to answer the ultimate questions of the universe. But it never does. Keep looking.

...and are both quarkons made from three blarks bound together by a strong force.
Talking with some "scientists" is kinduv like that. When a college student is fed with incessant catechisms of faith in (false) science, you get the American University money-machine...and statements like "Science proves the God of the Bible doesn't really exist the way you think He does."

It is depressing to see the disparaging remarks about efforts in research. The comments here are often along the lines of "It's all about the money..." "They are just trying to disprove God..." "This is meaningless and has no value..."
Sub-Atomic Particles, Feh?
Perhaps the posters here should take a moment to reflect that they are using machines powered, controlled and networked by the movement of sub-atomic electrons. Seems pretty useful to me, I make a living with them.
Anyone out there been sick or injured? Ever have a PET Scan? PET. An acronym for POSITRON EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY. That's right, that's ANTI-MATTER used in medical scans. Seems pretty useful to me.
We get these cool things by exploring the physical world, looking for things to exploit. People here deride looking for the Higgs Boson because of an apparently offensive nickname that has stuck: "The God Particle". The Higgs is proposed as the "Mass Carrier" of the universe, exerting its influence in the "Higgs Field". This is analogous to the Electron being the carrier of the electromagnetic force, operating in the magnetic field. Using the electron to manipulate magnetic fields enables AMAZING devices, from Motors to transmitters and on and on.
Imagine being able to use the Higgs Boson to manipulate the field that bestows MASS on matter. Imagine "floating cars" or spaceships without inertia, or a hundred other things my brain is too feeble to conceive.
Is this even possible? I don't know, but I DO KNOW that it will BE IMPOSSIBLE if we STOP LOOKING.
