On October 3, 1995, O.J. Simpson was found "not guilty" of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, even though any reasonable person knew that he was guilty. Basically this was a case of "jury nullification". Reaction to the verdict was divided among racial lines.
However, it is important to point out that no cities were burned and no whites retaliated by taking TVs and designer clothing out of department stores. Basically they sucked it up and got on with their lives.
However, O.J. Simpson did not get away with murder after all. From that point on, O.J. Simpson's life was a living hell.
Nobody hired him as an actor again. Not even the 7th remake of "Naked Gun". Nobody wanted his autograph anymore. He did not run through airports anymore. No corporation hired him again to sponsor their product. His stellar NFL career was forgotten about. No longer was he welcome in an NFL stadium. People shunned him. He became a laughingstock (remember the "I'm going to find the REAL killer"?)
He lost a civil trial to the tune of $33,500,000. His Heisman trophy was auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Goldman family. He was denied compensation for book and speaking deals. He was arrested for various offenses and eventually convicted of kidnapping and armed robbery.
He is still in prison today, a miserable, unhappy and unhealthy person. He will either die in prison or if he lives to his parole, will die destitute and lonely.
He did not get away with murder after all.
He had legal insurance which paid his legal bills. His NFL pension is exempt from creditor claims. Hopefully, he will be murdered in prison.
Didn’t know about the legal insurance. Too bad. Wouldn’t think it would cover his latest crime round but who knows. Murdered in jail works for me.
Whats the old saying? The wheels of Gods justice grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine. Something like that.

The day of the verdict, I was at a bookstore in Austin and a clerk told me his schizophrenic son did it, and OJs been covering for him.

I had been summoned to a County jury pool that day. At lunch time, I was in the Tandy Center in Fort Worth. Just as the verdict was about to be read, I saw a huge crowd in front of the Radio Shack where multiple TVs were on. When the verdict was announced, the blacks (majority of the crowd) went crazy and were shouting and dancing in the mall.
btw... You and an earlier poster mentioned Jason as the possible killer. This thread is the first time I’ve even heard of Jason.
“An Unreal Dream: The Michael Morton Story
That was, hands down, one of the most profoundly moving and just plain interesting things I’ve ever seen on TV. There’s something about Michael Morton; he’s got an aura of peace and acceptance surrounding him, that is impressive. It felt like the watcher was in the presence of a holy man.
I believe his pension is $25k a month from the NFL.
Florida law prohibits it from being garnished.
I think it was as much prosecutorial nullification as jury nullification. They were terrible.
Honey Baked Hams and Juice Plus dropped him quickly as their spokesperson.
This is the man that others want to burn down their city over?
It's my belief that none of the rioters, and darn few of the protesters, care about Michael Brown in the least. They just see an opportunity to punish the world for the injustices they're convinced they have suffered. This is the result of stewing kids in envy and bitterness and "why me", instead of challenging them to take responsibility for their own lies.
The white kids may be richer, and less likely to get killed in their youth, but if they're anything like the ones I know who wanted to join in, they're just about as angry and miserable and self-destructive as the kids raised on welfare. Where the liberal kids I knew when young idealists who honestly wanted to help people, the ones I know now are just deeply disturbed, to the point where all of them are on depression meds.
I knew liberalism was unhealthy even in high school (blessings on my 9th grade teacher who insisted we use real-life examples in support of our political theories!), but I honestly never expected this. Envy is a cancer that can destroy a whole culture.
My comment may not have been made clear, as to me, OJ dying in prison would be justice served and therefore a happy ending.
I believe you and I are on the same page.
We have seen other instances where justice was ignored as well, the Zimmerman/Treyvon incident for example. Regarding the Z-T fiasco, this article serves to sum things up : George Zimmerman's Oxbow Incident.
There are both male/female and black/white perspectives:
Maybe OJ looked like a criminal to the white community. Maybe his ex-wife was embarrassed by OJ’s sexual escapades.
It’s maybe the most powerful documentary I’ve ever seen.
Michael Morton is a compelling figure to be sure. One can’t watch his story without taking stock of his own life.
Yep, Ron and Nicole were not seen golfing in Palm Beach yukking it up like OJ was.
That’s what we should all wish for him. Besides, if he became a Christian, he would truly know just how heinous his sins were, and grieve over them.
Never thought anyone’s ruin through their children was a good thing. I will have to reevaluate that thinking.
Don’t be sorry.... he’s earned it through his own free will.
That is the power of the Gospel and the blood of Jesus Christ. No one is beyond reach.
Never implied it was a “good thing.” Just stating that on account of his daughter, he will have less money to come back to. If he gets out.
