You may not think of it as the most exciting car in the world, but the newly redesigned Volkswagen Golf compact car has been named Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year. The award is for all four available versions of the Golf. That includes the sporty Golf GTI, the diesel-powered Golf TDI, the electric-powered e-Golf and the basic Golf 1.8T. This seventh-generation version of the compact car is lighter and more fuel-efficient but still larger than previous Volkswagen (VLKAF) Golfs.

Obviously your car will never work for me. Speed limits are advisory. If you are in the passing lane and see me in your rearview mirror ... :-))
And now these idiots will let Union in Chattanooga plant...
And vice versa?
“I suspect the boys in blue benefitted from the incentive program.”
A friend burning kitchen trash in his back yard was literally raided by an EPA SWAT. They put out the fire and sifted the ash. The ticket he got (for burning some plastic)was $800 plus and it counts as a criminal arrest. Newly divorced, he could not afford the ticket and it went into collection at $1,300. He lost his driver’s license and now can only work when somebody takes him there.
First, who knew they did that? Or, that it was against, not a law, but a code...a regulation? Do you know how many regulations result in fines or jail? Lots, apparently. Second, they should have written him a warning. But then, they really need the money as that’s how the county department is funded. They are out “earning” their pay and benefits. The whole thing would be ridiculous if it weren’t so scary.
I think the State can be encouraged to stop by and fix that sort of impediment made by the Antidestination League.
I have had three of the cars. A Vega, Shitation, and a K-car. The worst was the Chevy Shitation, then the Omni. The best was the 1976 Vega. No oil burning, no mechanical problems, very little corrosion after six years of use, great gas mileage, (no power though), and quite comfortable. I drove it for over 150K miles with nothing more that a timing belt, brakes, battery, and a fan belt.
The best car(s) I ever owned was a 1998 and a 2003 Pontiac GP GT. Not on the list but should have been. I drive a Camry V6 SE now. Great car.
Bought a VW Rabbit many years ago.
It spent more time in the shop than on the road, and I swore I’d never even look at a VW ever again, and I haven’t.
They were indeed rarities on the road.
Tiger Woods needs to be the spokesman for Golf.
This Honor doesnt mean SQUAT!
...
I think it means the winner bought a lot of advertising in the magazine.
I had a 1990 GTI that would seem to throw an undecipherable $50 piece of plastic from underneath every few months.
Had to get the top end redone at 108K. Radiator died at 36K, but they warrantied it. Just lots of annoying stuff.
Finally sold it to a guy, and although I warned him the timing belt was about due, he drove it hard and thrashed the valves when it broke.
My current fun car is a 2005 Honda S2000... night and day difference. It still has the original factory battery, although it’s starting to get slugish when it’s cold.
Yeah, but that Citiation X-11 was super sporty. LOL.
S2000
why did they stop making those?
everybody loves them
Maybe a video?
Sorry to hear that. My ‘75 Scirocco was great.
No idea, but it is a GREAT car. Everything you need and nothing you don’t.
They’re going to regret turning the Jetta TDI Sportwagen into the Golf TDI Sportwagen. They’ve always been Golf elsewhere, but people are status conscious. Golf is basic hatchback. Jetta is entry level luxury.
The Golf is the platform on which the New Beetle is also built.
Same car, different body shape. Fun to drive. Which is ironic since the Germans said they would never bring the Beetle back.
The much-loved design is iconic and remains because it is VW’s flagship car.
I have a 2003 Passat - does that count?.....
Not sure what they have done to them since my '97 Jetta TDI gets 44 mpg...
Probably all the crap to protect the bozone layer and prevent glowbull warmthing..
