This is pretty far off topic, except for the ending, but get thee the movie "Citizen X". It's about Russia's, and probably the world's, biggest serial murderer with 52 deaths to his name - all in the '80s and '90s. Check out the reviews of this 1995 sleeper.

The pertinent part here is after he's caught and convicted, TWO YEARS later the guy is executed. No ACLU wringing their hands or tearful candlelight vigils, just a short walk through the cell block hallway. Don't want to give the ending away, but it was a no fuss, no muss deal, unlike the travesty reported here.

The guy who tried to assassinate FDR, but instead killed the mayor of Chicago or was it Miami, was executed two weeks later.

“get thee the movie “Citizen X”.”

Excellent movie! I saw it on TV many years ago and finally found it as a DVD and purchased it. Have shown it to all my friends and family. Gruesome story but with a great ending. It’s Russia, though, so we can not ever expect such swift justice in our own country.
