Honestly, this is what I heard. The reason is, that in slavery times, the white men did whatever they wanted with their slave females, that obesity is a defense mechanism to make themselves unattractive to white men, or men in general.

I am helping out a Pastor friend with a new church plant here in Calgary. He is Liberian and the majority of the church is African. One rather large woman from the Congo told me that in her home country, having a large wife is a status symbol. A large wife means that her hubby is doing well enough to keep his wife ‘well fed’. If she is not so big, he is not earning a good living.

That seems Lysenkoish. That black females could pass such a learned trait to their offspring in so few generations, I mean.
