My parents saved nothing for me or any of us to go to college on and I, frankly, don’t forgive them for that, not that they have asked. They were childish and immature. I on the other hand have saved so my kids can go.
This guy sounds like an ass.
As a single father I put my 4 kids thru private school. Three of them wanted to go to college, one didn’t. I paid for the college. I won’t pay or support them to do nothing in life. No welfare from daddy. College betters them. No social degrees here.
“My parents saved nothing for me or any of us to go to college on and I, frankly, dont forgive them for that,”
Ford paid for my father’s ME Degree, after he had been an employee for ten years.
His response was “Get a job, and if the company wants you to get a degree, they will PAY FOR IT!” That was a philosophy from a different era.
Instead, I went to the Air Force, then worked sometimes three jobs to get through a private college, and graduated in 1989 with a grand total of $2,500 in student loans.
Going AF first, THEN doing college is probably why I graduated, to begin with. Had I gone to college without it, I likely would have dropped out after a year, I just didn’t have the discipline.
Neither did mine - my dad busted his ass as in trades but couldn’t crack management - he wouldn’t lick the boots. We didn’t go hungry, but there wasn’t money for college.
Everyone of us (4 brothers and sisters) graduated with a college degree or more. Some of us on loans some of us with scholarships...if we wanted it we had to get it.
I’ve told mine I’ll help, but I won’t pay 100%. Met too many then and since that wasted their parents hard earned money when they didn’t have to pony up anything.
