The U.S. Navy is slowly preparing the first of its massive, 15,500-ton Zumwalt-class stealth destroyers for sea next year. But questions remain about many of the technologies onboard the new ships. First and foremost: can the thing even stay afloat?
The vesselwhich is the largest American surface warship since the 1950s--brings a new untried tumblehome hull design, new power systems and gun technology that have not been used on a modern warship before. The ship is highly automated with a crew of just 142 -- compared to older ships that have a complement of about 300. But despite its massive size, the stealthy warship appears on an enemys sensors as something no larger than a small fishing boat.

Yup, new names are needed. I’d actually look to the old post-WWI names for the Battlecruisers that were never built (names that were lifted from age of sail ships) but those are just about all legacy carrier names.
Then again, Ranger, Constellation and perhaps Monitor could work. Might make up for hanging Independence on a freakin’ LCS.
USS Brooklyn (CA-3) from the 19th century.
Defender, Protector, Guardian, Stellar, Sentinel
some ideas
Weren’t most of those recent minesweeper names?
The Brits always had better names to draw from. Furious, Terror, Vengeance, Warspite for instance.
I didn’t know if they had been used, just thought they sounded good.
It’s a new age, we need to keep up with the times... these ships could be named the Fabulous Class and every ship could be named after some homosexual behavior or whatever.
Um, yeah, thanks a bunch for going there. Just thought up a half dozen names based on your criteria before I checked myself.
Now I need to go remember where I left the brain bleach ...
lol
I think we had 142 people on a USCG 378.
I can’t imagine being the DCA on this one. Better hope your automation works.
