Hope we remember this the next time Belize takes a hit from a cat 4 or 5 hurricane.
They are completely without the infrastructure to deal with something like Ebola in Belize. Their economy is almost entirely dependent upon tourism. An Ebola outbreak would destroy them economically.
While I question denying permission for the woman to be airlifted from the cruise ship to an airport in Belize in order to transfer her onto an awaiting air ambulance to return her to the US since there would be next to no contact with any domestic person and only moments to transfer her to the plane, I don’t question at all their strong reservations to the point of denying entry to those potentially exposed to Ebola.
Their PM did more right than wrong, imho. But, there will be political repercussions, no doubt in my mind about that.
It looked like the intelligent thing to do. Just because she was a US Citizen these lesser countries should just say “Yes Sir, Masser”?
