This is a teaser for a GSA Annual Meeting & Exposition in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on 1922 October. There is an excellent listing of web pages and technical papers at the source.

Another example (as if any were needed) of why scientific pronouncements should never be taken too seriously.

That’s the ticket. I’m sure that any connection between the collision of a 10-km, mountain-sized rock with the Earth at speeds exceeding 20 km per second and a global catastrophe leading to the extinction of more than 90 percent of all fossil families is purely coincidental.

reveals that concomitant volcanic activity and the associated climate and environmental changes were significant contributing factors in four of the five major mass extinctions in Earth history.
Wait.. So they're contradicting themselves here. If climate change on an extinction level was cause by volcanoes, and volcanoes like Iceland, Mt. St. Helens, Krakatoa, etc. all spew more CO2 each than humans have in our entire history, then how are human CO2 emissions causing climate change?

new research in both planetary/space science and multiple earth-science specialties reveals that concomitant volcanic activity and the associated climate and environmental changes were significant contributing factors in four of the five major mass extinctions in Earth history.
Wow, talk about ironic, me and my buddies were discussing this very subject last Monday night at the bar while watching Monday night football..........Whoa, pretty eerie......
