That’s the single biggest credibility problem in Hollyweird today. 50 years ago when they were doing WW2 films, many of the actors in them actually HAD been in the war or in military service (look at “Hogan’s Heroes” for that matter, where the actor Robert Clary, who played Cpl. Lebeau, had been in a real Nazi Concentration Camp for 3 years !).
These pampered douchebags today have never known much of a greater horror than having their wrong-flavored Dasani water in their dressing room.
For some reason my parents didn’t care for actor Van Johnson. He was in that great Battle of the Bulge movie. Maybe he was a draft dodger, but I’m not sure.
Yep.
It’s just a reminder that everything in this country has become false and pretend.
I’m too young to have been around in that era, but I have noticed the same thing in retrospect, just reading about various actors. It’s funny though, some of the actors with the most impressive service records turn out to be the ones you would least expect.
For example, I would never have pegged Jimmy Stewart as a “war hero” from his films, but he was drafted, rejected, then reapplied multiple times until he made the cut (after having been a famous actor for years). Then, when the Army tried to relegate him to public relations and training duties, he kept petitioning until he was put on active combat duty in Europe, lead bomber squadrons into Germany, and earned high decorations.
The actors playing the Nazi were all JEWS!!!
Werner Klemperer, John Banner, Leon Askin all fled from the
Nazis
The Gestapo man Major Hochstetter was plauyed by Howard Cain
(Howard Cohen) an American Jew actor
Ahhh, that must be why Hogans Heroes was so realistic - damned near a documentary in fact!!
Just kidding - GREAT show! And FTR, the monocle and riding crop of Colonel Klinks? Those were affects that the actor, Werner Klemperer, added himself.

I'm not bothered by whether actors have been in a real war. I just think the acting profession is so dominated these days by homosexuals and metrosexuals that there are few actors anymore who can convincingly play macho manly types. There are no stars anymore with the masculine and heroic qualities of John Wayne, Kirk Douglas, Charlton Heston, Robert Mitchum, Burt Lancaster, et al.
