obloquy \AH-bluh-kwee\ , noun
1. a strongly condemnatory utterance : abusive language
2. the condition of one that is discredited : bad repute
Example sentences:
The manager walked quickly back to the dugout as insults and obloquy rained down from the stands.

Etymology:
English speakers can choose from several synonyms to name a tongue-lashing. Abuse is a good general term that usually stresses the anger of the speaker and the harshness of the language, as in "scathing verbal abuse." Vituperation often specifies fluent, sustained abuse; "a torrent of vituperation" is a typical use of this term. Invective implies vehemence comparable to vituperation, but may suggest greater verbal and rhetorical skill; it may also apply especially to a public denunciation, as in "blistering political invective." Obloquy, which comes from the Late Latin ob- (meaning "against") plus loqui (meaning "to speak"), suggests defamation and consequent shame and disgrace; a typical example of its use would be "subjected to obloquy and derision."

Good use of yesterday’s word.
the more the press misquotes this Pope, the more his responses to them get further away from what we’ve taught all our lives-I want Pope Benedict back-he was a realist. A pope who comes from a PC socialist country where they may as well worship unicorns was an ill considered choice...
Most of the Catholic bloggers, who cautioned restraint at the beginning of his papacy, have been notably shaken by what has been coming to pass of late.
I know the basic concept and Fr. Brian has espoused on it and I realized it’s more complicated than I thought. I may just sit down with him and share my concerns and see what he says. Not in RCIA class, though. Don’t want to undermine the church with the students.
The mothers in my Mother’s Prayer group just rave about how wonderful Pope Francis is, I shudder when they do that. Was the same way with our former Bishop. Fr. Brian was delighted with our new Bishop, so he might be pretty candid with me about the current Pope.
More and more, I realize that God has ended a Papacy with the death of the Pope. God didn’t end anything, Pope Benedict took himself out and I believe that was in error. Too late now.
Do you really think he took himself out? I thought he was forced out.
Out of the direst desperation
Democrats in senatorial races
Where voters have come awake
Are attempting to change faces
Now they say Obama is wrong
Obloquy is in their speech-
They’re caught in the act,
Now they start to screech
They claim they never knew
That Obama was pretending-
That little work of fiction
Won’t have a happy ending...
We can only hope and pray that they finally see the fraud and his minions for what they are. A+ for you!
