I have a laser mouse, I think of it as the Eye of Locutus

As long as you can locatus the laser mouse every time you put it down, you are in good shape.

Laser mice, and optical mice in general, no longer require contact with a surface to move a wheel which feeds input to the mouse position.

The optical mouse orients itself to the patterned background over which it moves. In theory, one could use it on an air-hockey table, where it would not encounter a surface at all.

In the case of a laser mouse then, resistance is futile.
