Recent Mars Images (Marvin the Martian throws down the kaboom in a guest zot)

Posted on 10/08/2014 10:49:46 AM PDT by aardwolf46

All over the internet recently, sciFy vs. reality and a Mars satellite for petty cash:

That breaks the monopoly. Faced with the spectre of other nations publishing uncensored Mars images, NASA and JPL have started publishing some much more obvious images than they have in the past including a totally uncensored video (JPL) showing large-scale structure.

A few items...

JPL uncensored video showing large-scale structure:

Raw JPL video:

Electrical device of some sort with helical coil wound around it
Device is on the left, about a third of the way down on the image

Gear of some sort.

Raw image showing gear:

Wheel - axle device

Raw NASA/JPL image:

Metallic container with handle

Product returned from end user: “Doesn’t boot past Bios.”
Okay.
Try it.
Re-load the OS on re-boot.
Fail.
Open lid.
Unplug and remove Hard drive case.
It was indeed a Hard drive case.
No Hard drive….
That may account for it.

On to the next. :)

PC World once asked me to devise a test for national chain repair shops. Back in the day my first suggestion was to take the ram that had to be inserted in pairs (yes, I’m much older than 32-bit PCs) and put the DIMMs into the wrong pair of sockets.

But readers cried that I had asked too much when I suggested making a small break in the parallel HDD cable. They said HDD cables are almost never the problem. I came up with that particular test because I had troubleshot that problem myself and thought it would be easy.

Apparently, 3 of the 4 chains recommended a new motherboard.

Apparently, 3 of the 4 chains recommended a new motherboard.

And 3 out of 4 HVAC services recommend a new compressor.

I can hardly wait to see what I weigh tomorrow. I could do it today, but I would have to reset the computer and I don’t want to do that.

Although I’m anxious for Sparkle to “become a cat,” I will not push her. The fact that she doesn’t always hide when I go into the bedroom is a small victory.

Just went to Walmart and found some butternut squash and fresh asparagus all packaged up, so I bought one of each. Some of each I will cook to go along with the chicken breast for my big meal today. They were “expensive” as vegetables go, but I don’t like butternut already processed and asparagus is much better if it’s cooked just before you eat it. Of course, I eat canned asparagus cold, with mayo, but I like it hot with butter and salt!

I went to Walmart instead of walking the property. Bigger and faster! It all counts!

I went by Asuncion’s and picked up the earrings she’d made to go with my dress from the Hospice Thrift Store. I will look stuning. I’ve put all my jewelry into compartmentalized plastic boxes - a thread-sorter and a fishing-lure box - and I have my “real” jewelry box to Asuncion for her granddaughter.

If I’m going to have new earrings for every outfit, I’ll need another thread-sorter!

“Gave” that is. I could type more successfully if I cut my fingernails.

Today’s kitty seems miffed. I liked the floofy ones better. :)

I'll keep that in mind tomorrow.

It's rainy and cold here. I probably have to go to Walmart again, but not right now.

Welp, I’ve had my coffee and did my errand, so the rest of the day is mine.

Hahahaha!

My niece in Idaho finished my son’s VW hat, and will send it to him as soon as I have paid her for it. I just emailed you a photo of it, so you can see her talent and cleverness. I wish I knew how to post it here.

My son is off until January 4th, so he is resting up. I’m so glad he has a decent job, now.

I used to have my necklaces on a thread spool holder. I don’t know where it went, but I wish I still had it. It wasn’t in the stuff that was in storage, and I think I liked it too much to give it away.

When I moved in here, someone (and I know who) stole my old-fashioned egg beater, my ice pick (my mother gave it to me) and my heavy-duty rubber meat tenderizer mallet. All three items, I doubt I will ever replace.

My fingernails break. I need to polish them again, but I need the table to do it. Right now, it’s set for dinner with Santa!

She does extremely clever work! The item before that was a Batman hat, complete with ears! And before that, a Zombie hat for her son for Hallowe’en, two years ago...that one was complete with “dead skin” color, flaking skin and on eye that was hanging by “muscle.”

The gal is something else!

The daughter of one of my mother’s friends has a business making cheerleader hair-bows. Apparently there’s a big market for them: they’re assigned as part of the uniform for the cheerleaders in every community sports program.

Some kids are incredibly talented, others are incredibly smart, and still others are incredibly incredible just by nature of their existence!

For all this niece has gone through, she still surfaces as a force to be reckoned with. She does back drops for wedding receptions, is involved with clever projects for her Webelos, and does things for fun like make clever beanies!

She and her husband bought a house and had it paid for in 10 years by making double payments. What a brain that kid has!

Probably an empty display shell!
