Recent Mars Images (Marvin the Martian throws down the kaboom in a guest zot)
Posted on 10/08/2014 10:49:46 AM PDT by aardwolf46
All over the internet recently, sciFy vs. reality and a Mars satellite for petty cash:

That breaks the monopoly. Faced with the spectre of other nations publishing uncensored Mars images, NASA and JPL have started publishing some much more obvious images than they have in the past including a totally uncensored video (JPL) showing large-scale structure.
A few items...
JPL uncensored video showing large-scale structure:

Electrical device of some sort with helical coil wound around it
Device is on the left, about a third of the way down on the image
Gear of some sort.

Do you think kids on Mars will graduate from Bradbury High?
I think that would be incredibly cool legacy

We had a friend of Sallys and her dad over. Theyre going though a family breakup, and they wouldnt have had a Thanksgiving dinner otherwise.I'm not fit to wash your feet. Thank you for your teaching.
Happy Thanksgiving T-C!

Plenty of leftovers, just as we planned.
"Do you think kids on Mars will graduate from Bradbury High?"
Heinlein too; "What you talkin' about, Willis?", and who would be willing to bet there won't be a Saint Podkayne School?
Mars is going to be a challenge, there's no doubt of it. It would probably be easier to colonize Antarctica. Come to think of it, it might be best to do both, and send a lot of that excess ice from Antarctica to Mars to replenish its former oceans.
Even with the oceans restored, Mars will have more arable surface area than Earth, and we'll be able to dig deeper and build higher, (lower gravity, see?)
We could end up with a higher population on Mars than on Earth. Most of them would be farmers. (Farmers in the Sky).
It will take some fixing up to do all that, but having another whole world has got to be worth something!

Happy Thanksgiving! to you. 😆
"electric kettles"?
do you mean, tea/coffee pots? heck!..we went through a nearby house in '69..abandoned
(dated by Newspapers/battery jars) in the '30s Depression and they had an electric coffee-
pot ☕ (electricity was introduced into area in the '30s).

true.. but, the hang-gliding, should really be great-world/
that world (space-wise), if you catch my drift.

"... but, the hang-gliding, should really be great ..." I don't think so. The atmosphere on Mars is exceedingly thin. One could possibly arrange a hot-air balloon, but not from combustion.
A good possibility for air travel on Mars might be a hydrogen filled balloon surrounded by a nitrogen gas envelope, (a combination that would work well on this planet as well, and was suggested about a hundred years ago).
Mars has the potential for having some very energetic wind-storms, so the weather would certainly be a factor.
Railroads on Mars might be the preferred method of getting around, and would be relatively weatherproof. Good for carrying freight as well.
Of course, one might need nuclear energy to power the locomotive, but how did you happen to get to Mars, anyway, if it didn't involve nuclear energy at some point?

Yes, it was, thanks. I slept a little late this morning. In a few minutes, I’ll get Kathleen up, and we’ll try to leave for the gym by 8:30.
