How Liberals Dominate the Public Debate

According to former Green Jobs Czar Van Jones, the Democrats have a linguistics “Jedi” named George Lakoff (rhymes with back off), a Professor of Linguistics at U.C. Berkeley. He advises Democrats on how to win in the political arena by controlling the language. Lakoff's theory -- according to his Little Blue Book -- is that people use metaphors or narratives make decisions about politics. The way liberals frame issues in narratives undermines conservative’s positions in a subtle way that lets Democrats easily defend their disastrous policies.

Here are ten examples:

10) ObamaCare – At one point, the president embraced the word “ObamaCare”. It is the frame for the Affordable Care Act as “Obama given healthcare”. Then, the website debacle and the lies about “keeping your doctor” and “keeping your plan” began to tarnish the word by proxy. Obama dumped the frame went back to the “Affordable Care Act”. The media quickly followed.

9) Progressives – The “liberal” label has lost its glow, so it is back to “progressive” from Woodrow Wilson’s policies of the early 1900s. They choose “Progressive” because it implies that opponents are regressive. Same hula dance, different grass skirt.

8) Tea Baggers -- The Tea Party is overwhelmingly made of decent Americans who believe they have been Taxed Enough Already (TEA), are called "Tea Baggers" (A sexually offensive term) even by Biden. They are the moral opposite of the crude, law-breaking left’s Occupy Wall Street crowd.

7) Pro-Choice -- The term "pro-choice" frames those who are champion abortion-on-demand as defenders of a woman’s “right” to choose. Maybe the "war on the unborn" would be an effective Republican frame.

Republicans are too concerned about taking the moral high ground than fighting tooth and nail to expose the Democrats' and the rest of the Left's true agenda. All the while, the country falls deeper and deeper into the abyss./rwa

I too have thought of how we push the use of “Obamacare” thinking it will tarnish his reputation, while the Rats say “Yes, sure, Obama is all about caring” and neutralize the term more effectively that anything our side ever did to counter the false “Bush Lied People Died” mantra.

The truth is, they are better than we are at politics.

Those weren't all Lakoff, although he's a specialist in the field. "Assault weapons", for example was, IIRC, Josh Sugarmann. But the point is valid: these are people who do not regard words as tools to explore the truth, but to dictate it.

It's a ploy as old as politics, and it wouldn't be anywhere close to as effective as it is without open media complicity. That's the real difference here. Without a delivery system Lakoff, et al, would be just another set of academic cranks.

For a long time I have noticed the manipulative adjectives and adverbs in the Democrat rhetoric. I cannot figure out why the Republicans don’t do the same. Example: ‘every person of compassion would agree’...........so if you don’t agree with their talking point, you have no compassion. We need new speechwriters!

The sympathetic press marginalized “communist” on the excesses of Senator Joe McCarthy.

• The MSM employees invented excesses but were in general afraid of McCarthy--
• I still recall Edward R. Morrow joining the effort to destroy McCarathy (1953 IIRC) after that it was just a matter of time;
• IIRC the CP/USA coined "McCarthyism";
• Drew Pearson was the most prominent MSM employee going after McCarthy;
• some believe McCarthy assaulted Pearson at a private dinner and newly-elected Senator Richard Nixon stopped McCarthy from killing Pearson (1950);
• McCarthy was a 1930s FDR Democrat;
• McCarthy was not subject to military duty as a judge but he joined and served in the Pacific IIRC;
• many of the "excesses" of McCarthy have been proved to be truths.

Look at how even conservatives use the word McCarthyism.

Public schools! Without them children might be taught values and would oppose the immoral state. Imagine if congress was taught Black's law commentaries, Austrian economics and ethics rooted in the law of God. The article is looking at the fruit, schools are the cultivation of that fruit.
