I gave up after the third season.

The show was just getting too predictable: (1) survivors on the run from the zombies, (2) find a new place where they think they might be safe, (3) the group has some internal conflict and a few episodes where little else happens (to keep the budget down), (4) turns out their fellow humans are as dangerous as the zombies, (5) the zombies attack again, a few of the crew die (to be replaced by “good” people from the new group) and (6) they hit the road again.

And damn if Carl is annoying.

"I gave up after the third season.

I understand your frustration... the 'Lori Grimes' grimes character drove me crazy, because she was always sliding from this option to that one, but I just watched the first and second episodes again and remembered why I got interested in the first place. IMO this the most innovative program on TV right now...

I agree completely. Show's formula: Spend 40 minutes of the 46 navel-gazing and second-guessing yourselves. "Oh my, Rick! What HAVE we become????" Three more minutes building up to a predictable conclusion, since you pretty much know Rick isn't going to get killed. Next minute, kill the bad guys/zombies/troublemakers. Final minute: agonize over the brutal choices you've been forced to make. Next episode: repeat ad nauseum.

I will definitely watch the season opener. I've told myself that if it hasn't gotten out of the "Woe is me" pattern by the third, I'm done. I can rent better zombie movies, and I don't have to put up with Carl or that weenie Glenn (although I'm told the latter finally gets offed this season. Now THERE'S reason to watch!)

I still love the show. Wait until the space aliens show up on Earth and they become infected also. The battles & struggles between humans, human zombies, aliens and alien zombies will be epic.
