The Wall is one place to look, the vast expanses of the internet is another.
Where have all The FReepers gone?
Long time in passing.
Where have all the FReepers gone..
Lonnnng time a'passin'
Everybody comes and goes,
The World spins NO one knows,
Where have the FReepers gone,
Gone to Heaven. Everyone..
Except for those still mround..
Where have you gone?
OMG!! You’d better fix that! We all had better....
A big Dale Carnegie fan, apparently .. lol
I'll be 52 this year, I was 36 when I first logged onto FR, following a link off of Drudge Report. My first son was going on a year old, now we're taking weekend trips looking at colleges for him.
Lost count of the number of posts I've made on here. My two most favorite memories are the March for Justice and going to meet a bunch of fellow Freepers in Seabrook Island in South Carolina back in the summer of 2001.
Been on more Pro-Life and anti-embryonic Stem Cell research threads than I can recall. One very impassioned anti-embryonic Stem Cell Research thread went for several days and I was about the only person arguing against using embryonic stem cells (taken from aborted children) for medical research.
I remember that particular thread because I still have a few of the freepmail's I received from a few people on here who I respected greatly who encouraged me to keep up the fight. I had saved that thread to my HDD, but that was now several computers ago and I've no idea what happened to it. I kept that thread because it was probably the most impassioned thread I'd ever read on FR from both sides of the argument. Not a single post on it "got personal".
That was the good old days.
Well at least you can watch your game. Idiots have the Cards/Dodgers game on MLB network and a lot of people are pissed. But the Giant/Nats get that treatment on Monday for game 3.

Going on 14 years myself. I lurked at least 2 years before that. Found FR because my aunt sent me a link. She joined in 1998, but hasn’t posted since last year.
Until a few weeks ago I had a thread saved on my profile and decided I was tired of the long load times and deleted it. But before I did I went and checked on all the names of who posted on it. A lot of banned names, most of the others hadn’t posted in a few years and only a handful was active recently. Some I know had died.
I was talking to WestCoastGal the other day and asked where she spends her time these days. Not at Facebutt, nope she’s now a Twitter gal. Comes by FR once a month to see what’s happening then goes back to Twitter.
I think lots of the old time FR folks are spending their freetime at Facebutt.
Ash Alert!!! ;-)
1998 was 16 years ago
Post something from a blog. You will find HG.
Now that's funny, I don't care who you are.

So funny, many of us found this site during the Clinton administration scandals/impeachment era. Sounds like the good old days today!
A lot of the early Freepers came here from Drudge when the Lewinsky story broke. Those were exciting times as we got to participate in the birth of the citizen journalist. The corporate media guys have went from laughing at it to the unemployment line just like Drudge predicted.
Many early ones (like me) lurked for a long time before we finally joined on. Like several other people have commented, that was a chapter that is now closing. I rarely post and mainly hit the site to check the news (still the best on the web IMHO).
Free Republic, unlike other websites that came out at the same time and are long gone, has held true to it’s charter and I have great respect for Jim and the crew in how they contributed to helping people navigate through these turbulent times. The archive of this site will be a treasure trove for future historians.
Been here almost every day since 98. Missing many people. Remember when an airline went down years ago and we had three or four people who flew them regularly discussing the possibilities. We drew from a broad section.
Not much like that anymore. Lots of religion and arguments about angels dancing on the head of a pin. and who is going to heaven. tiresome.
I miss the old excitement.
Some folk seem not to understand who our real enemy is - liberals, not a different kind or less politically strict conservative.
That's why conservatives lose much of the time, unlike liberals.
Liberals know whom their enemies are, conservatives and conservatives often confuse those more or less conservative than they to be their enemies not liberals, so the most conservative candidate loses out to a liberal.
Consider them closed.
For the enjoyment of the old school.

This is STILL my Nation.
The growth of the net is why we no longer see many posts with more than 25 replies.
Our passion has been diluted.
______________
Haven’t seen anything out on the net like FR.
IMO there is no better place on the net to find out what’s going on.
Sometimes it makes me mighty mad though.
I’m just a noob compared to everyone else here. I’ ve only been here seven years
Ive been here for years and have noticed the slow decline in the quality of the postings. There are still some insightful comments and some good discussions and informative threads, but many seem to devolve into stupid arguments and personal insults and one-upmanship. FR is still good for breaking news, though.
Agree though it makes me sad to say it.
When I read or hear a news story I always think, wonder what Freepers have to say...
Sadly more often lately, there is no one here on it.
