And I will restate what I posted to you for the 2nd time.

No Commercial Flights in and out of the Hot Zone. The flights in and out of the Hot Zone should be for medical and humanitarian purposes only.

What is being allowed now is total Bull Shit. I am not accusing you of being a democrat or part of the administration. But I will not allow you to get away with supporting this half ass attempt of stopping the Ebola Tragedy by this stupid Administration who should not be issuing Visas to anyone in the Hot Zone.

All Commercial Flights should be banned. There should be an worldwide effort to help contain and the conquer the Ebola outbreak. What is going on now is pure idiocy.

OK...

BE A LOT SIMPLER TO STOP THE VISAS.....

But he’s not going to do that...is he..

So....you think he’s going to ban the flights?

He does not have to do that because all the flights go to a couple destinations in other countries..one is Brussels.

They don’t come directly here.

The flights with the people on them that you are concerned about originated in Brussels. They are separate connecting flights..We don’t own them.

More easily done is to flag the passports and tell Brussels that we no longer accept passengers from the Hot Zone, as you call it. No need to mess with the flight.

But then you have to explain the visa’s...and the fact that some of the passports you flagged were NGO’s or doctors, or nurses, or UN or WHO or CDC people.

You could do it by Nationality, but with the same issues.

So I am back to the Visa’s or the quarantine..

I actually have thought this out..

I hope they get the protocols set at the airports and the medical facilities around the country. So much can slip under the cracks and Ebola has the makings for a pandemic.

There was so much done wrong at the Duncan apartment in Dallas, I am waiting for new outbreaks as a result. They haven’t yet figured out all the people who have come in contact with the members of his household. The DA in Dallas is considering charges against Thomas Eric Duncan for knowingly coming to the US because of his Ebola exposure. The hospital who received him in the ER should have put him in quarantine immediately. However, because of the poor communications about proper screening techniques for a disease that mimics the flu, that is a wide crack that needs to be fixed.

As far as the airlines, I have said on this forum several times that nobody is talking about the toilets. Anyone who has used a airline toilet knows the confined space they are in when human waste is aerosoled when a toilet is flushed. Many individuals may be unaware of the risk of air-borne dissemination of microbes when flushing the toilet and the consequent surface contamination that may spread infection within the space, via direct surface-to-hand-to mouth contact. Some enteric viruses could persist in the air after toilet flushing and infection may be acquired after inhalation and swallowing. Ebola on dried on surfaces such as doorknobs and countertops can survive for several hours. Transmission through direct contact means that body fluids (blood, saliva, mucus, vomit, urine, or feces) from an infected person (alive or dead) have touched someone’s eyes, nose, or mouth or an open cut, wound, or abrasion. In an airline restroom, all one has to do is touch something with the Ebola infected person’s aerosoled feces and touch their eyes, nose, or mouth an open cut, wound, or abrasion. I hope the toilet water is treated with a strong bleach type disinfectant, if that is even effective.

Ebola makes the perfect biological warfare agent. I am worried that ISIS is looking into the practical method of using it for an attack against the US. If they did such a horrendous thing, we should do everything to destroy them.

Finally, we have not even begin the know how to protect against an Ebola strain that becomes airborne. I have described the toilet method of airborne transmission. However, the classic method will be the pandemic we fear the most.

Well...yes...certainly.

I know it won’t allay your fears, because frankly, I have taken a awful lot of flak trying to explain the mechanisms and timelines of Ebola Zaire specifically.

While their can be exceptions to anything, virus shedding of Zaire does not occur initially, like the flu does before you are symptomatic..

The mechanism of shedding occurs when the virus overwhelms the immune system in the host and perforates the vessel walls, leaking into the gut, eyes, mouth, and eventually the skin and organs.

By this time, the host is really, really sick.

As a example, the Dallas guy went to the hospital with abdominal pain, a low grade fever and general bad feeling illness. I am pretty sure he was not shedding yet. But when the ambulance picked him up, he was not very mobile, was tossing his lunch and was entering the late stage where shedding begins.

When the CDC and others say that a contactee on a aircraft is not a automatic risk, they are referring to what I just outlined for you. They were not trying to lie to you. A traveler who was in end stage would not likely be able to move well and would be obviously sick, and unlikely to board.

Having said that, long flights, 10 hrs or more with connections could certainly result in a infected person getting much worse during the flight. That is a real possibility so like I said, there are exceptions. And the CDC probably made a mistake when they issued that guidance early on. But I think they were not thinking of these long drawn out international flights. They were thinking domestically.

That mistake and others just recently in Texas will be used to improve responses...in the future..

I am more concerned about panic. I don’t like what I am hearing and seeing in the media and I think it’s way past time for some adults to lead and get all of the information out there for the public. Panic very well could damage our response, just as it has in Africa.

BTW...there is only one test done some time ago with some pigs and monkeys that seemed to infer that ebola could transmit via airborne. That would mean something different then aerosol. But the test showed some inconsistencies and reports for thirty years in the field do not support that conclusion either. They don’t have a single case they can show to be transmitted that way. Aerosol spray, direct contact with the body,or fluids on surfaces are all they have documented.

What you are saying is that it can transmit in the smell.

I have not seen evidence yet of that.

So that’s all I got, and it’s late, and I will now be accused of being a government shill for sure..but I’m not...

You have "shed" good light on how Ebola is transmitted. I tried to read the scientific descriptions: "These findings all suggest a novel mechanism of enhancement: multiple IgG antibodies bind to GP epitopes in close proximity, allowing the binding of C1 to the Fc region of the antibodies (Fig 9). This complex binds C1q ligands on the cell surface and stabilizes the interaction between the virus and its receptor, increasing the likelihood of viral attachment. It is hard for me to follow. See Fig 9:

Figure 9. C1q-mediated Antibody Dependent Enhancement of Ebolavirus Infection (Model). Ebola virus initiates infection by binding to its specific receptors (top panel). C1q enables binding between the virus-antibody complex and C1q ligands on the cell surface, promoting interaction between the virus and its receptor (bottom panel). Binding of the virus via the C1q molecule increases the likelihood of viral attachment to the cell surface. (Takada et al. 2003).

Ha!...I wish I was a virologist at times because these things fascinate me, but let me do my layman translation because I have been reading this stuff for weeks now.

To summarize. The virus has numerous proteins and each one has a function or they surmise it does this or that.

What the thing does, is to use the host immune system against the host and in the employ of the virus. It uses the immune reaction, comprised of the cells produces that are intended to destroy the virus for it’s own needs. It needs to break through the vascular walls as the end game, but it also need to attach it’s self..it uses the body’s own defenses to achieve what it needs to do. and by doing this it neutralizes the immune responses.

When it’s done, it breaks through the vessel walkl and leaks into its target areas which contain the cells it will feed upon.

This is when the infected become shedders and are very sick, as I explained. In fact, they may not even have a fever at this point in time. The immune system is totally gone..or compromised to such a degree that it cannot fight back.

To put it simply.

The game of Ebola Roulette continues...

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

We’re gonna need

a bigger cart!

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

I do not think it really is over confidence.

It is more like living in that narcissistic elite bubble. Their tunnel vision is what will get us all killed. Hubris is more like it.

sprayed into the sewer,

That was the most terrifying thing they did. Of course, Ebola was already in the sewer system, from Duncan's flushing the toilet. And now, his family is in another location possibly flushing Ebola down another drain.

I read "The Hot Zone," and learned that a certain deep, dark cave in Africa was the probable home, or source, of much of the virus. Deep and dark, like a sewer?

Well I have just read on a few pretty good web sites that Thomas Duncan is dead or near dead. I’ll wait for the official announcement, but it’s probably true.

I guess the CDC does not want to create a panic, but people’s lives are at stake. They have to stop the flights and they have to secure the border.

The only question now is how many people will have to die before this is taken seriously?
