Operation completed? French sports newspaper L'Equipe are reporting that Bianchi's operation has now been completed - and crucially they say the young Frenchman is not on life support.
L'Equipe claim their information comes from the Ferrari press office. We do know that Ferrari team boss Marco Mattiacci did go straight to the hospital after Bianchi was taken there by ambulance. The Marussia driver is being treated at the Mie General Hospital.

Those were monsters to ride.
To: Chode; All
this is too eerily similar to María de Villota.

Is there any video of the actual crash? I haven’t seen it. I’m interested in the cause, not the impact...hit by another car?...mechanical failure?...driver error?

no video of crash as of yet (though i’m sure there’s footage from his car the FIA will never release)- just seemed to aquaplane on a fast corner as Sutil did before him....

3) finger pointing already going on as to why the race was run when the helicopter was unable to flyAccidents today are not a simple event, they have become a complicated series of failures occurring in a fast paced environment. This makes it very difficult to prevent. The level of permutations becomes the issue in achieving greater safety.

latest update with video: Critical but stable
“I can clear up a couple of pieces of misinformation which have been picked up by the French media and a couple of outlets in the UK,” Craig Slater reported at 6am UK Time on Monday morning.
“I can confirm that Jules is not, unfortunately, breathing unaided. My understanding is that he is still relying on a respirator at this point to be able to breathe.
Saubers Adrian Sutil crashed at the same corner as Jules Bianchi and feels the race could have been stopped sooner.
“I can also confirm that he has not undergone a second surgical procedure. My understanding is that he went through one medical procedure at about 11pm Japanese time and he has been intensive care since then.”
It has also emerged that Professor Gerard Saillant, who oversaw the initial treatment of Michael Schumacher when the German was in a coma after suffering serious head injuries while skiing in the French Alps, would arrive at the hospital in Japan on Tuesday.
