Note the date of this. I wrote it when I was in the hospital.

The Places

“Oh! The Places You’ll Go!” ... and now look where I’ve got!
The air is too cool, but the nurses are hot!
I’ve been poked at and sampled from spots here and there,
And orifices looked into almost everywhere.

In places where tissues were hidden from sight,
They used new technology shiny and bright.
With Magnets and Crookes’s Tubes and scanners and such,
They studied my innards. No expense was too much!

With blood samples taken for each Doc on each floor,
I decided that surely I could tell them the score.
It seemed rather safe one could make this prediction,
At some point they’d discover my anemic condition.

So how did this happen, and why am I here?
At least I am comforted — it wasn’t the beer!

It seems I’ve been prideful, and bragging too much,
Forgetting at times that my makeup is such,
That the tiniest thing in a wrong little spot,
Can remind you, like others, immune you are not!

So I’m humbled and stumbled, and felled from my perch,
And one lesson seems clear, “Pay attention in Church!”
Oh, I’ll be okay. I’m getting the point,
I’m confident soon I’ll walk out of this joint.

Much better than how I hobbled and stumbled,
As I entered my quest to be poked at and humbled.
There’s a lesson I’ve learned — more than IVs and pills,
If you’re milking Human Kindness, watch out for some spills.
