It’s a beautiful part of the world. People who are down on France due to thinking the entire country is full of Parisians don’t know what they’re missing.

Greece:

Delphi - great scenery, ancient history.

The Parthenon - great architecture. (See the friezes if you get to London.)

Mycenae - Fascinating site. (Go early, avoid the Germans.)

Santorini - Best wine, best beaches, most interesting geology and archeology site in the country. (Wouldn't want to own real estate there though.)

Crete - Over-rated archeology sites but the friendliest people and best preserved WWII history in the country and best preserved vestiges of the islamic period, now that the Parthenon has been restored. (Watch out for the Raki.)

Most of the recommendations are in continental Europe but don’t forget the British Isles.

I spent eight days in London and one day in Stratford-on-Avon and could spend another three weeks there again. Language barrier doesn’t exist and shared history is awesome. I have a fifth great grandfather that was Lord Mayor and got to stand with a statute of his in the Old Guildhall. Went to a performance of the Messiah in St Martian in the Fields, Vanessa Redgrave in a Greek plan in the Theater district. It is a wonderful town on-foot and by tube.

Go to the countries in Eastern Europe — Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, etc.

Don't forget Croatia.

I probably wouldn’t have said it a few years ago, but Warsaw is actually becoming a decent city to visit, it has changed so much in just the past few years, especially since they co-hosted the 2012 Euro tournament.

A LOT of history there, nice parks, modern buildings mixing with the old Socialist architecture. It’s quickly catching up with Krakow.

And when you see the film of what Warsaw looked like before the war, it will make you hate Hitler all that much more, he destroyed what was one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, and also the Communists for replacing it with their architectural monstrosities.

Has anyone here been over there?

Yes, a number of times but I prefer to visit areas of the USA. There are so much to see and experience right here.

I view Europe as antisemitic and islamist.

I love, love, love Berlin! I was there in June and was shocked by how wonderful it was. Great museums, the reichstag dome, wall memorial. I think part of my interest was having a WWII dad and growing up during the Cold War. So much history.

I have travelled to Paris, Milan, Florence, Venice, the Cinque Terre, Torino, Zurich, Geneva, Brussels, Amsterdam and the Netherlands, much of Germany (but not Bavaria), Denmark (Copenhagen, Billund, Odensk), Dublin, Scotland, London and parts of England, Vienna, Salzberg and Normandy/Bretagne.

Of those cities/areas, I’d recommend Paris, Dublin, Venice, Amsterdam and London.
However, I’d highly recommend Rome, the Cinque Terre, Normandy/Bretagne, and Berlin.

Those happen in one square where the media congregates. The media never show the mcdonalds or nike stores a bit to the right of the camera angle.

The journalists rent the rooms with balconies and order room service at the grand britange.

the anarchists and communists still don’t understand the concept of volunteer during the 2004 Olympics. “they work, FOR FREE! who decided that?! Whose job are they taking?”

In Heidleberg, Germany, the old areas of the city survived WW2 bombings largely intact following the conflict. It was HQ for the victorious Allies. Cool old fashioned areas and though I was there in the 70s, it was a very great visit.

On weekends in the Summer they have a great fireworks display and the ‘burning of the castle’ celebrates a 1600s battle. The Main
River which runs through the city and just below the Heidelberg castle is great for cruises.

In late Summer the biggest wine festival in the world (just ended this year) is in a place called Bad Durkheim.

Other places in Europe are great as well. I visited southern
France and northern Italy which is very pleasant.
