MUNICH (AFP) -- Germany's world-famous Oktoberfest kicked off Saturday with the traditional tapping of the first barrel of beer, as millions of revellers are set to soak up the frothy atmosphere in the 16-day annual extravaganza.
With the cry of "O'zapft is" ("The keg is tapped"), the amber fluid officially began to flow at noon after Munich's mayor, Dieter Reiter, with due pomp and ceremony, took a mallet and in four swings breached the 200-litre barrel.

German women do not work out? Sorry, she looks like a girl that like to take care of herself.
OMG. I wonder if she would agree to be my wife?........
Don’t like arrogance, come to the Kentucky Bourbon Festival. We went today. Bourbon capitol of the world. Very down to earth.
Hey, I am 100% German. I resent that remark. I spoke only German when I started school. Still understand it, but have trouble speaking the language.
We got two rounds of beer from a wait staff in Ramstein [sp] on our trip to Bosnia when I laughed at the waitress's joke in German.
And the best thing is, when they drink all that beer, it makes ME look good!
Cheers to that!
LOL
Yes
My uncle married a German girl who is an absolute doll...don't know about the rest of them, though.
When stationed in Europe I , on average, was at the Hofbrau Haus an average of every third day over an 8 year period ..... Loved that place ! ya ya frau’s were awesome and the beer very very good.
Octoberfest ..... So good .....I have no memory of that event senator !
Drunk in Munich was more like this and didn’t sound as good and the girls started out looking worse etc ....
There is plenty of my favorite B word on this thread.
If you’re in Germany, don’t go to the fest in Munich, as it is just too big and too crowded to have fun. Go to another city, like Stuttgart, where the festival is still large, but not so gigantic.
The very best are smaller towns that hold their own fests, usually with their own brand of locally brewed beer. They have a much better selection of food, and are in it less as a money making exercise than to just have a good time.
Thought I read that oktoberfest was a big deal here in US but not a biggie over in Ger.? Well who knows.
That looks like she’s at the Hofbrauhaus in Pittsburgh, where I dined a couple months back. They have really big...
mugs of beer there.
